Hirsh is a future star. Jennings is a #3 starter at best. Horrible deal, and I see Hirsh haunting us for years to come. He was our best pitching prospect. Stupid ass deal.

He said he should make his debut sometime next year (which could mean at the start of the season)... either way, its good that they're not letting his DUI in the AFL (which he got suspended from the team for) hang over him.

Did the Astros bring on Charlie Casserly as a consultant?

I'd rather have the option of being able to play Burke in CF if we want to, or other spots if the opportunity/need arises, as well as both Hirsh and Buchholz to help fill the rotation or bullpen if need be. As is, we don't even have a #4 or #5 starter, let alone any backups in case injuries pile up. Trading 2-for-1 pitching is just not helpful.

This is the exact reason I was so annoyed with the Pettitte thing. Losing Pettitte was a bad move (if he really would have signed for 2yr/$28MM) and caused us to make yet another bad move.

Timmy P says Burke in center. At least he'll be in the lineup everyday.

You're dreaming if you thought Biggio would start out the season on the bench for all road games... he's the everyday 2B till 3000.

in fairness, he's been a sub-4.00 ERA pitcher exactly once in his roughly 5 year career. the three years before this last year he was a +5.00 ERA pitcher. but it was in colorado, so i don't know what that means.

in 2005 his home ERA was 5.16 and his road ERA was 4.87

in 2004 his home ERA was 6.15 and his road ERA was 4.86.

in 2003 his home ERA was 4.64 and his road ERA was 5.38

I have no idea what to make of all of that.

This honestly reminds of me of that stupid trade the Mets made sending Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano.

Lets hope it ends a little better this time around.

So, humidor helps a little in 2006... and we all know pitching away from Colorado helps A LOT regardless of the type of pitcher you are.

Jennings is a sinker-baller... Brandon Webb-lite. I'd take him, especially given you-know-who at SS.

They need to re-sign him, however.

Good analogy. Purpura has Charlie Casserly-Syndrome.

of course... whatever I do like about this trade would only be good for me if Jennings signs an extension.

I can understand it if you are getting a legitimate number 1, or maybe even a high quality 2....but Jennings?

    JENNINGS??????

I mean....maybe Willy for him straight up, but Purpura just got taken to the woodshed.

    Haunting us from Colorado??

Please.... He is going to be tossing out gopher balls like crazy at Coors. Not to mention an ERA in the 5's.
