But it wasn't enough for Garland... Chicago didn't think it was enough (especially not Buchholz's bum shoulder, Willy's poor OBP, and Hirsh's youth/inconsitency).

I know that question wasn't directed at me, boss. But how does "not fully agreeing with their team" go so quickly to "Purpura is fat and stupid"?

What seems utterly r****ded to me is guys who've never done a damn thing in this industry going beyond simply questioning a move to throwing insults and questioning the competence of guys who consistently build a winning organization. (And to those who want to bring up Hunsicker: yes, Purpura has been a part of it even during the Hunsicker years.)

And you act like there never has been a pitcher have one season under a 4 era, but suck the rest of his career. It is very difficult to project how well a pitcher will pitch outside of Colorado. This is where the scouts make their money and we'll see if Colorado or Houston had this trade scouted better.

    Forgot that old chestnut.

    Max,

I understand where you're coming from, but we needed someone who's proven that they could do it on a consistent basis in the majors. If we didn't make this deal, the same people b****ing about it would be b****ing when our 3-5 were prospects having a hard time adjusting to the bigs.

Oh well, it's never going to change, I guess I'll just resign myself to the fact. I mean, if people were still willing to b**** after our first World Series ever, then they're willing to b**** about anything and everything.

Oh crap. We may actually get to see Hunter Pence this year. Hell yes! I will miss Willie T but we need pitching bad. And I wasn't too big on Hirsch. He seemed to get weak pretty quick. I just didn't like a big ass dude (what like 6'6 or something?) Not throw really freakin hard. Taylor on the other hand well...I think he will end up being better than Hirsch. That is just my opinion.

I'm freakin ready for this season to start already! We will see more Luke Scott, Mike Lamb, Chris Burke, Hunter Pence and of course Carlos Lee!

No problem, son. Now run along and work on that David Carr coloring book and try not to go over the lines because... well, David doesn't.

I have no argument with this. Instead of saying our GMs ****ing suck or our GM got ass raped, why can't we all admit that, like most every other trade, it can go either way. I don't think it's 100% guaranteed that Jennings will have a sub-4.00 era, but I do think the potential for him to do that is better than any of the guys we traded or guys we still have not named Woody or Roy.

    1. i'm not sure jennings has shown consistency. 3/5 of his career he's pitched 5.00+ ERA ball. this last year he had a really, really good year. i'm concerned we overpaid because the guy had a good year last season. and we didn't do it with money but with talent.

    2. i'm seriously not b****ing. i'm just unsure.

Yeah, I'm the one who needs anger management, not the guys whose heads explode when we don't draft the guy they want or don't like anything the Astros do. But yeah, you totally got me. Good job.

Of course, if Jennings is just a one year rental... it could be a bad trade (especially if Hirsh actually figures out how to keep the ball in the yard... even though he won't look good in Colorado).

But, nothing is pointing this trade to being a one year rental... especially since if Jennings is going to sign an extension, he'd likely want to do it THIS year, while the market is still great.

My statement infers (or at least I meant it to infer) that questioning a move is cool.

I like the trade but I can also see people's complaints. The thing is Purpura is no Jerry Hunsicker, he's just not. He has to overpay to get free agents, and overtrade to get good players back....basically he's like most avg. GMs. Hunsicker was a stud in my opinion, easily the best GM in houston the last decade.

He's proven he can do it over the course of a year. Neither one of the guys we've traded have ever proved anything on this level and there's no guarantee they will.

I didn't mean to direct that to you, just the forum in general. But, I obviously need anger management since I'm not fond of b****ing about every single thing my sports teams do.

The only talent I see is the unrealized talent of Hirsh... which is, of course, unrealized so I can't really evaluate it.

I'm getting more psyched simply because the guy is a sinker-baller. Sinkers WORK in Houston (and throughout baseball).
