9 game losing streak or not, we're still in this.... that's the beautiful thing about being in the comedy central. we have an unfortunate mix of horrible players (everett, ensberg, lane, biggio, ausmus...) and a severe lack of fire. where's the urgency? not debating calls, defeatist attitudes, just going through the motions.... things have to change, starting at the top. i still think we're more than capable of turning it around, but we need to show some sense of urgency and desire.
sure, they could once again fall into a pennant race by virtue of being in an awful division. and i'll take it. but the truth is that that would only mask the many problems this team has. they're 103-110 since 2006. even when you factor in the 2005 season, which included an unprecedented 117-game stretch, they're still just 192-183 (.501) over that period. and that's not meant to marginalize the WS appearence, either. just trying to demonstrate how long they've actually been very average during the regualr season. so i fail to see how the '03, '04 or even '05 teams are relevant to this current, mediocre group.
Seriously, if you can't find something enjoyable about the game of baseball and use it as merely a tool for aggravation & a reason to b****, find something better to do. It's not healthy.
btw...I'm just jacking with you, Ric. I don't see the situation, this year or going forward, to be as dire as many do. They will have a new starting C next year; they will have a new starting 2B at some point this year. They will hopefully soon have a MVP-caliber 3-hitter. They may now have a very solid #2 starter. They need an answer for RF/CF and 3B. They have good options to fill out the rotation in the near future. Purp's definitely on the clock. Will be interesting to see what they do.
vomit. they've been a sub-.500 baseball team for the past 213 games - what's "enjoyable" about that? further, why is griping about it in a forum, you know - sort of, kind of, oh, i don't know developed for the sole purpose of discussing sports unhealthy? and what does it say of the person who spends his day at said forum calling people out and passing judgement on their sanity? it's healthier to be - and I’m just spitballing here - the curmudgeon who thinks everyone else is beneath his level of fanaticism, dedication, and/or knowledge?
oh, great - so you post that AFTER i fire away at you.... great. thanks for leaving my dickie thon in the wind there, buck! so, yeah, anyway - me too. jacking with ya and all...... (feet pounding, door slamming.....)
If only one of you - or, I dunno, both? - would bother contributing to this site, you could edit those posts!
They'll turn it around... Jennings' start yesterday was encouraging. Having a solid number 2 will help the pitching staff (starters and relievers). The bats will eventually get going, but the question is, how long can they sustain it? They've been (literally) hit or miss for many years now. Hopefully, one hot month and everyone will be back on the train err bandwagon. I predict their Phoenix-type rise will coincide with the end of my graduate program in June so I can watch all the games guilt-free GO STROS!!!
I have no idea. Nobody in the org is ready or good enough to be the full-time guy, I don't think. Need a 1-2 year stopgap until Towles is up.
Thankgod for us being in the Central. Seriously, even with how bad we are. We're still in this thing.
With that attitude, you know the "root for the good guys" crap this team will never win a world series. It's time to demand results On to another rant about blind fans who think this team has been a "good team" since the end of the 2005 season lets be real ok. The Astros needed a miracle run to finish 82-80 and the only reason they were in the race was the fact that they were in the worst division in the lesser NL. Just because the Astros caught lightning in a bottle and got to a world series in 05 and the Cards did the same last season does not mean this is the way to do things. Stupid bandwagon fans will probally tell you the Astros have had a better team than the Rockets since late last summer because the Rockets were not able to get out of the first round in a brutal Western Conf. Hell put the Stros in the AL central they aint gonna win 70 games. This has been fools gold and serious overhaul needs to happen, good news is Bekman, Lee and Oswalt are young and here for a long time. Pence and Patton along with Josh Anderson might all be stars soon and there are other good arms in the minors that might pan out. Please for the sake of the future do not compete for this divison crown this season (trust me I'll be cheering every game for a win but this is what is best for the future IMO I hope I am wrong) because it will be same ol same ol next year. Purpura's fat ass needs to go along with that stupid redneck manager. I watched an interview with Purpura last night (ABC 13), what a douch the guy said "you know" like 13 times in two minutes. Learn how to speak, if I am a GM I would clear my schedule if he called about a trade because I'm sure he would bend over and let me screw him. Go Astros and please get the right people in there to help us win a world series. Oh and no Buck most diehard fans can't enjoy uninspired, ****y baseball from the team we have followed all our lives.
just a huge slump. but being in the NL central we can do ittttttttttttttt. come onnnnnn lance, carlos, hunter, and roy-o.
Was thinking more of what the "demanding" would look like: Internet petitions? Frothing-at-the-mouth calls to radio stations? Vehement posts, full of name calling & such, on the internet? Burning Purp in effigy at 501 Crawford? Public demonstrations in front of McLane's driveway in Temple? Torches & pitchforks? But yeah, if that'll get me cheap beer I just might sign on. All that is outside of not showing up at the games, which is in everyone's right, of course. Which brings me back to my point: if you're not entertained...find something else to do.
