Never thought it would happen but WOW!!

Nook was right, for the right player, Crane would be willing to go over the luxury tax.

    LOVE IT!!

I’ve always kept any eye on Hader since the Astros traded him. I was furious they let him go on the cheap. But it’s cool he’s back. He’s been an elite reliever and closer since ~2017.

    I like it!!!!

I look at it more as insurance or a natural succession to Pressly... who isn't young, has a lot of miles on his arm, had previous injury years prior to the last 2 relatively healthy ones, and he isn't signed beyond next year.

Pressly was an all-star dominant set up man before he became the best playoff closer the Astros have ever had. Unlike some closers who just can't pitch anywhere else, I have no concerns about his ability to adapt in whatever role is needed.

Also we know that there's no such thing as too many good bullpen arms... just like there was never such a thing as having too much good quality starting pitching (which was the bad BBS narrative after they won the 2022 World Series).

I also think the Crane/Brown narrative should be that they're going to be in win now mode till they literally stop winning.

****ing A. Brown stopped PISSING his trousers long enough to make a REAL move. Nice.

Let's pray the rosary for this.

I love being wrong about this. That’s a lot of money though.

Do you think we will trade a high dollar contract?

    No.

Also most teams can't just trade a high dollar contract without eating most of it... and in other cases they're looking to get out of the future years, and the only player the Astros have locked up long term right now is Yordan.

I disagree. I was thinking Abreu. Not that he may be super tradeable.

Love this for the playoffs, 3 innings of ELITE pitching to end any game. Takes a lot of pressure off the starters. Plus Pressly, Hader, and Abreu can all rotate duties all year, no one will be tired come October

Credit to Crane, he certainly went ahead and spent to address an issue.

I don't love the idea of tying up this much in a 50-60 inning player at a highly volatile position, but needless to say it greatly improves our largest are of weakness.
