I like what i hear about Shoo. But there are a few highky rated prospects at the outfield already here. Springer, Dominguez, DeShields, Tucker, plus a few others. I WANT TO SEE WHAT THE prospects can do. Of course the percentages arent the best for a minor league prospect to make it. But most of the all stars in the MLB were highly rated prospects at some point in their minor league career. Not all top rated minor leaguers make it. But almost all MLB allstars were top rated prospects.
Unfortunately if you want to spout off about an owner who lacks class, ours would be at the top of the roll Also unfortunately for Astros fans, this Rangers roster is well put together as is their farm system. I think the Angels have made some deals that are really gonna cause them problems in 4-5 years or so. The Rangers have the look of a team well built for a long run
Ray Davis wants to be the Jerry Jones of Rangers baseball which is why he made the moves to throw Ryan overboard. Simply put, he got tired of Nolan getting all of the PR.
Rangers farm system does not look near as good now as it did three years ago. They have a few marginal middle infield prospects and a bunch of Low A lottery tickets.
Dont get me started on the Astros, never said the astros were class. To say the Rangers are built for the long run is rediculous.(Beltre in decline can barely run, fielder? Big ol money pit in serious decline, whos your catcher? Soto? Underachieving pitching staff) The point is that Daniels is spending and burning up prospects like there is no tomorrow with nothing to show for it. The Rangers and Astros will be alot closer in the standings this year than most ranger fans want to admit.
This year, that's crazy talk. That underachieving pitching staff looks pretty good to me when Alexi Ogando isn't even guaranteed a rotation spot. For this year, Choo and Fielder are a massive upgrade over their predecessors. I'd be stunned if Texas doesn't win 90 games. If you think the Astros are coming close to that, than they probably will be winning ROY, manager of the year and a couple other awards. In any other division, maybe you see improvement, but everyone in the West got much better. I can't see the Astros close to anyone with perhaps Anaheim as the exception if their big guns suck again.
A lot depends on if the Astros are improved. The Rangers were basically a .500 team outside of their games with the Astros last year. They were 32-6 against the Angels and Astros. Seven games below .500 against the rest of the league. Eleven games below .500 outside of the AL West. The Rangers were a very, very mediocre team last year in a poor division. If the Angels, M's and Astros improve marginally, then the Rangers will have to improve quite a bit from there to maintain. Of their top seven home run hitters last year, five are no longer with the team. Of course they added Arencibia, Fielder and Choo. They will have a big drop off at catcher, second base, third base, closer. Perez had a FIP of well over 4 last year. He got very lucky to have such a low ERA when you look at his WHIP and lack of strikeouts. Would be tough to depend on the luck needed to duplicate that. We shall see. They would need Fielder to get back to his former self, and Choo to duplicate his career year...just to be as good as they were last year. Then, they need to improve upon that if they want to maintain 90 wins with the Astros, Angels and M's getting better.
Denial denial denial. Rangers are a team built for now and the future. Take your homer glasses off and look at the facts. The Rangers offense has drastically improved and the pitching staff is as good as it's ever been. Rangers are loaded in the bullpen even with the loss of Nathan. I doubt the Astros are within 30 games of the Rangers this year.
