It’s not what I feel about White that is alarming to me. It is the seeming desire of the FO to move him off the roster. I trust their judgment. If they don’t have the confidence in him to sustain his hitting, than I don’t either.

Where are you getting this information? The FO has signed an outfielder and traded for a backup SS/2B. I have not seen a move for a DH/1B to replace White or Gurriel.

The attempts of our FO attempting to sign Cruz are well noted. As I referenced in the article that McTaggert posted on the Astros homepage earlier today, he stated that one of the 3 main FO objectives is to upgrade the DH, and that even if we fail to do so, White is not even mentioned in his article as a DH option.

So you're basing all of your assumptions on an article written by Brian McTaggart? I guarantee you that if Luhnow really wanted to sign Nelson Cruz, the chances are pretty good that he would be the Astros DH in '19.

We’ve had numerous discussions about this already. My stance is that Cruz wanted to go to Minn; or that Cruz’ contract was more than Luhnow wanted to pay.

And no, there are reports from Rosenthal, Justice, Morosi, McTaggert, and others all stating they HOU has been in hot pursuit of a DH upgrade.

Stros4me, this thread is also basically wrecked with your volume of posts, much of which is repetition. Please consider quality over quantity.

Eh - unlike our favorite cangeroo who just verbal diarrhea'ed his way around this board, Stros4me's posts are mostly all responses to people actively responding to him. There's no reason for him to stop arguing his POV if other people are keep arguing theirs.

When was the last post actually about JT Realmuto? I think we have an entire thread dedicated to Tyler White, perhaps we should utilize that?

It just sucks when I think there are actual Realmuto updates, only to ready a whole bunch of stuff not related to him at all.

Agree with that. Although sometimes it’s easy to move from topic to topic and I like that the forum is fluid enough for that. When we get too distracted or off-topic, we just need a reminder to get back on course. So....thanks.

Now, as far as J.T. Realmuto news....as long as the Marlins hold to their ridiculous price tag for him, there will be no news (other than pontifications, of course).

We saw this situation when the NY Knicks held the trade hostage and ended up sending him to a different team with better assets to offer.

I would trade Tucker personally, but I trust Lunhow.

He was bad the first 14 games (.682 OPS), amazing the next 37 (1.082 OPS), garbage the final 15 games (.479 OPS). So that's the "5 week period" he was only good in this year. I don't believe in these small sample sizes arguments though. I'm just showing some stats, but I also don't see him as a top 10 bat (using his wRC+) so I do except some regression

It’s possible (or even likely) that Realmuto is not dealt or dealt to someone else. I for one, appriceciate Luhnow’s hard stance on Whitley and Tucker.

Does anyone know how to project surplus value on prospects? I know Realmuto has a projected value of $85 mil and a surplus value of $70 mil.

I’d like to know how to find a calculated offer using prospects that is the equivalent of about $95 mil.

He's been extremely streaky his whole (limited) time in MLB, that's the one thing that concerns me about him. I hope, barring some sort of major signing or trade, that they roll with him at 1B/DH initially and go from there. ST will be fun seeing which youngsters do what.

Also, he was one of the few Stros who performed better at MMP, his OPS was about .200 pts higher at home in an equal number of ABs. And he loves hitting LHP.

The Astros chances of trading for Realmuto before ST are currently at 29.4% [nods to @Nippystix]

    So I found the following:

    https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/so-you-want-to-trade-for-j-t-realmuto/

    https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/an-update-to-prospect-valuation/

    https://www.fangraphs.com/prospects...prospect-list?type=0&pos=&team=hou&page=1_100

    https://www.draysbay.com/2017/12/10/16753906/surplus-value-calculator-2018-evan-longoria

From what I take away, in order to get to an approximate 85 mil evaluation offer for Realmuto without using Whitley, Tucker or Alvarez, I've come up with the following:

    1. Kemp (estimated value of 5 years of control, estimated fangraphs WAR of 0.5 for 2019; extend that for 5 years and you have a total of 2.5 WAR.) Value approximates 2.5X11mil=27.5 mil.

    2. Stassi (estimated value of 4 years of control, estimated fangraphs WAR of 0.8 for 2019; extend that for 4 years and you have a total of 3.2 WAR.) Value approximates 3.2X11mil=35.2 mil.

    3. Bukauskas (approximate prospect value based on Fangraphs FV of 45)=10 mil

    4. Corbin Martin (approxmiate prospect value based on Fangraphs FV or 45+)=12 mil

    5. Cionel Perez (Fangraphs calculated value)=17 mil

That's 101.7 million of total projected value. I think that's more than enough for a 85 mil Realmuto.

We'd probably need to get a PTBNL back to balance it out.

    Thoughts?

Not giving all that up for 2 years of a catcher.

Since I think Tony is gone anyway, and Stassi would be gone in this trade, It's really the loss of Martin, Bukauskas and Perez that would sting. Maybe get a prospect in return or PTBNL?

I, for one, appreciate your prolific posts. This GARM is about speculation and amateur GMs. I would do your deal less one of the pitchers. I would much prefer a Greinke or Kluber, but an upgrade a catcher would be great for the lineup.
