I just don't see where the quality starts are going to come from and it sounds like many are fine going on blind faith that the Astros will just miracle their way into competent starting pitching. I guess I just see starting pitching as a much bigger problem than some. I'm not sure there's a single starting pitcher on the roster I trust to give a quality start.
Wait? Are you pro or con trading for starting pitching? Weren't we just arguing about trading Pressly for Snell? Also, Blind Faith was an awesome band.
I was suggesting trading Pressly for prospects to create room to sign more starting pitching. Others argued that Pressly is the greatest relief pitcher in Astros history so starting pitching doesn't matter.
I was suggesting acquiring Snell without trading Pressly. Madness! Lidge/Dotel/Wagner was terrible to watch. I feel your pain.
Day 3 of the Snell Chronicles. Still waiting for the Stros to pull the trigger as it appears we're on the 2 yard line, but the ref has thrown a flag and currently reviewing the spot. The end zone is within reach, but it's not up to us; for the sports gods have their own will. So we continue to wait...
Sure, if you can just hit the "force trades" button, that would be great However usually you have to offer up something someone wants to make a trade happen. Usually they won't just eat your trash... but if that happens and we can get a sucker to take Montero and his contract off our hands, I'm all for it.
I'm willing to trade Pressly to the Rangers to infiltrate only with a mind-control button option which we can press at just the right time.
If Montero has to be moved to take on Snell you do it in a heartbeat. Tbe question is what do you have to attach to Montero to get someone to take him? I say Garcia or France. I’d do either but prefer it to be France.
Remember Todd Jones? Secret Agent Jones? We traded him to Detroit and he proceeded to blow 3 or 4 games against us within the next 2 years?
Why are we balking at 2 years/$60 mil. It's virtually just 1 year/$30 mil as he'll do everything he can to stay healthy and play well for that large contract, thus opting out after 1 anyway. Instead of $25 mil this year he wants $30 mil. Give it to him.
Whitley and McCullers and Garcia ...and whatever other injured people we've got lounging around in the training room
So we would essentially be trading France and montero for snell? Even if it’s just for one year sign me up. Think of how many games we will win just because montero isn’t pitching.
And Rivera blew saves in the postseason... @Bobbythegreat doesn't recognize that Pressly has yet to do that ONCE ever.
It's not that I don't recognize that, it's that it doesn't matter that much to me. There's plenty of relief pitchers in Astros history that wouldn't have blown those saves either, they just didn't have the opportunity at the right time. There's no sport where you're going to sell me on "just winz" or "ringz" arguments. Also, as of right now I care more about the 6 blown saves last season than what he did years ago.
I can’t see any club that would want Montero and I don’t want to give up someone. Singleton and Montero for a bag of peanuts? That’s about all I’d be interested in. I’d rather keep him, sign someone, and see where we are at the deadline and make a push to trade then and get under.
