First of all he won't be a free agent since the Astros have a mutual option with him. Even if he was a free agent, he wouldn't be a Type A or B free agent.

I was referring to Myers. You trade Berkman for anything possible at point. Try to convince an AL team that he can be useful...

Wow...off topic but Miggy is getting dealt to the Pads, good for him. I wonder how this effects Berkman?

    It's a team option.

I like the Wallace pickup, but his numbers have consistently been inflated courtesy of extreme hitters leagues. His .868 OPS this year, which is pretty shiny on the surface, puts him at #53 in the league. His .815 last year, which seems pretty respectable, ranked 76th! It will be interesting to see what his true ability is.

Ahhh, my bad. Might just agree with you on Myers although I'd like for them to atleast test the waters on him.

ANYTHING you can get for Berkman do it.

If not Astros will decline Berkman's option, have Wallace step in and at worse put up Berkman numbers from this year and have alot of money to spend on another starter.

They'll probably put Myers on waiver's to see what his market is after the trade deadline (lots of teams do this).

Probably doesn't. Berkman has a full no trade clause and wants to be a 1st baseman. I think he ends up with the Yankees with his boy Andy Pettitte if he gets traded.

I don't want to read this entire thread? What's the consensus on the trades? Good for Houston?

    I don't think you've seen everyone else's scouting reports.

Here are just a few I things I found on TCB that aren't glowing evaluations after researching for 15 seconds:

His minor league numbers are, in fact, not very impressive, esp. considering his age.

He's about to turn 24, has a poor walk rate, a sub .500 SLG% in his minor league career and is supposedly poor defensively.

I'm starting to feel similar to how I did those first few season after the Rockets got Yao and they had a revolving cast of players. They had no team identity and I didn't really feel they were MY team. But now look at 'em...it's gonna take several more years (at best) for the Astros to reach that point, but it'll happen. Still, after being at the ballpark a couple times this past week, it's so sad to see how this team's regressed...those glory days, where the city lived baseball, are long gone.

Debatable (as most non-Morey trades are).

Some like Brett Wallace and J.A. Happ, some don't. Personally, I think there was no point in holding onto Oswalt since we weren't going to win with or without him and we get two MLB-ready players (Happ/Wallace) for him. We had to make a trade, and I'm glad we did.

Overbay is not a good hitting 1B.

Apparently, the Jays have 2 other 1B prospects that they are higher on which is why they willingly dumped Wallace to get Gose.

Wallace may be good but there is nothing statistically that says he is going to be great in the major leagues.

That doesn't mean it won't happen.

    Good for the future.

4 years of Happ under club control.

Brett Wallace who is as good as Berkman NOW.

Freeing up 12 million of Oswalt's contract and most likely Berkman's 15 million team option next year.

I saw Goldstein's tweets and its obvious he isn't his favorite player but Ben Badler acutally liked the move, so Wallace will just have to be one of those in the eye of the beholder type players.

He is going to play 1st base not 3rd base which is where he gets that bad rep for being poor defensively. This is 2nd full season in pro ball and he is hitting .300 with 19 hrs in AAA. He is left handed and still has some upside. I don't think he is going to be special but I think he is going to be very solid.

One of the best posters over at TCB on Wallace: "He’s doing fine given his ARL. He won’t be a star, but I believe he will be an above average first baseman."
