I'll have to get out to the Dell this weekend. This is pretty much a sure sign that Lance's option won't be picked up...I would think.
come on....you know that they made that trade knowing they could flip gose. it happened within the hour. you can't judge the trade of oswalt without considering wallace...it all came together at the same point.
Puma's immovable. Too costly for his current regression and lack of production. No one wants to touch that. Selling Pence right now would be selling low, I think, and probably not a great idea. Wandy (not that he's stopped being awful) or Myers, on the other hand, might get a few good prospects, but then what would our rotation look like next season? You have to have 5 pitchers... Jordan Lyles maybe? Could be too early for him.
Singleton started his pro career at 17. Wallace at 21. Singleton's BB rate is very impressive and that is one of the safest indicators of future success as a hitter.
I dunno about this side trade. If Wallace is so great I wonder why the BJs were willing to trade him for a speedster. If the Sros wanted power I wonder why they passed up Josh Sales and Mike Choice in the draft.
Also, I wonder why Toronto is so high on Gose? Apparently he has freakish athleticism... Wallace is the better player currently, but reports seem to indicate Gose has the higher ceiling. I suppose Wallace is lower risk than Gose with potentially quick benefit. I guess this begs the question: when considering prospects, would you rather someone who looks good now and is probably MLB ready or someone that has a higher ceiling but isn't MLB ready?
I died a little today. I'm not upset that Oswalt is gone, but more so that this is the official end of an era in arguably the most successful time in Astros history. Once Berk is gone...which all signs point to being soon...these are no longer my Astros, but rather The Astros.
Just seems like they could have at least lessened the $ side of the deal to the Phillies since they were taking less. Why give the Phillies that much money when the player you want is on another team?
these from Alyson Footer earlier today http://twitter.com/alysonfooter Unlike the absurd hatred a few of you are spewing re: prospects you know nothing about, I choose to read up on the new guys before opining. 29 minutes ago via Twitter for iPhone ...give him away. Considering Roy's demands which reached unreasonable levels, it's a surprise this got done. Glad it did. 31 minutes ago via Twitter for iPhone
I wonder why Toronto gave up Wallace for Gose. Overbay isn't anything special and he's getting up their in age. I heard they were high on Gose but I wonder what else they have in terms of 1B in the minors.
Well, probably so Oswalt would drop his option demand. I don't think the Phills would have done the deal with out the extra money (the amount IS high though). However, they then flipped one of the players for a MLB ready player who they could not get from the Phillies. These two moves were planned from the start, it's obvious now.
Maybe because the player they (Blue Jays) wanted was on another team as well? The Blue Jays couldn't do a straight up Wallace for Gose swap with the Phillies like we did because of a guy named Ryan Howard who renders Wallace obsolete
