What does that have to do with it? Berkman is one of the best hitters in baseball. Like I said, he was coming out of his slump, so it would be best to let him play, regardless of what hand the pitcher throws with.
Scary thought? Oswalt and Miller are a combined 1-2 in 6 games. Those superb arms better start looking like it or 'stros will pray for a series with The Tribe, sob sob.
What makes you think he was coming out of his right-handed slump? Even as great as his numbers were last year, he only hit .240 with 2 home runs. These guys do need an occasional day off and what better time to rest Berkman than a game against a lefty?
I think giving Lance the night off was fine, and I realize he was set to pinch hit for Hunter if Craig had gotten on at the end of the game, but Moss had been done for a few innings by that point and I think Lance should have gotten in the game sooner.
When you play a team like the Giants, you need all your weapons. If you are going to rest your best hitter, do so against the Brewers. Secondly, sitting one of the premier hitters in the game because a lefty was pitching is absurd. Thirdly, the fact that any position player other than a catcher "needs" a day off is ridiculous.
So you feel that the best way to run a team is to play your 7 best (non-catcher) position players 162 games a year without any days off? I believe that is what I just read when you said that it is ridiculous that any player other than a catcher would need a day off. Interesting that players who play 162 games a year are few and far between (Cal Ripken being the one notable exception). It is also interesting that every manager would disagree with you. There is not way a baseball player could maintain peak efficiency by playing every game.
I believe you did misread what I said. I said, "When you play a team like the Giants, you need all your weapons. If you are going to rest your best hitter, do so against the Brewers." You can also rest them when you play a handful of other teams. Not when you play the best team in the league.
Looks like Raul Chavez hit his first Major League Home Run. It was a pinch hit Home Run too. Why dont they start this guy over Zaun whenever we want to give Ausmus the day off. Anyone is better than Zaun. Congrats to Chavez.**Standing Ovation**
I haven't gotten to watch that many games, but so far tonight Biggio has looked more comfortable in the outfield than both Merced and Berkman. At this point in the season, I have no complaints about having him out there.
I know we're friends, but do I need to tell you how important it is to have a catcher who can call a game? Blahhhhhhhh.....Posada, Ausmus, aslfjalksjflkajsfljasdf ahhhhhh Good teams need a good catcher who can think the game. Zaun can do that, Chavez is a nobody so far.
I guess it comes from the fact that I just think Zaun is best suited for a 40 and up Softball League somewhere.
The looong season for the 'stros has begun. Maybe with a real manager (like the one they let go to KC) and some pitching decisions (like the starter now toiling in Atl) might have better hopes written upon themselves for this Mudvill (I mean Minute Maid) 9... I want them to do well, but it ain't in the Cards (or Cubs) this year.
