So how was Houston able to beat them Friday? If they are so much better, why is Houston 4-1 against them this year? If Houston plays with no heart, how are they in first place when the 2 starters they were counting on the most this year are a combined 13-15? Their best hitter missed a month and is probably still not close to 100%. Their 2nd best hitter this year missed 2-3 weeks.

we got a 1-0 lead in the top of the second with runners on the corners and 1 out.

a balk is called when the pitcher begins his wind up to pitch, then flinches and tries a pick off. once the pitcher begins his wind-up, he must throw a pitch. bagwell was able to CREATE a balk by creeping down the third base line.

no one was covering third so he kept inching down the line.

    Third inning recap-

merced leads off with a homer, ensberg doubles, berkman knocks ensberg in with a single.

    Houston up 3-1!

Houston beat florida yes, but do u honestly think the stros have a chance in the playoffs if they go? I don't think there is a team that wants to play Florida if they go to the playoffs. The stros won this series because the marlins did not hit. If Houston can not score more runs on Carl pavona and Mark Redmond then how will they score on the Dontrelle's and ortiz's of the world? Yes i did say they play with no heart and they don't. maybe im spoiled watchin the Marlins play but when i watch houston play they are boring and dull, show no emotion what so ever either. and how are they in 1st place? because they have played bad teams and won, wait till these next few weeks when they play atlanta and st. louis. The marlins are a better team and im sticking to that.

What's your point? The Astros have lost many a game because they don't hit. Do I need to point out the fact that the Marlins scored one freaking run against both Tim Redding and recently called up to the major leagues, in which I only have one win, Jared Fernandez? Neither are exactly what you would call cream of the crop pitchers. You have to be pretty nutty to believe that an opposing team is going to want to play a lineup including Ensberg, Bagwell, Kent, Berkman, and Hildalgo more than they would a lineup including Castillo, Pudge, Lowell, Encarnacion, and Lee. I'm still waiting for the Astros bats to all get hot at the same time, because so far they haven't.

"The Stos won this series because the Marlins did not hit" has got to be one of the stupidest things I've heard in a while. Of course you lost because the other team out hit you. Give me a break.

The recap says Fernandez was putting up knucklers that sometimes registered 56 mph on the stadium gun. 56 mph? Hell, I can throw 56 mph knucklers! Maybe I should get a shot.

Can you imagine what it looked like to a hitter to see 56 mph pitches one at bat, then Lidge's 94 mph stuff the next? Reminds me of the Ryan - Neikro - Richard trio of the late 70's. Imagine facing that bunch in a three game series.

Edit...Ryan joined the Astros in 1980....my bad.

Richard suffered his stroke in 1980 and Vern Ruhle stepped in and had a great season. So prior to his stroke, the trio was together.

The Astros are finished with Atlanta and have a winning record against St. Louis. I am glad you feel the Marlins are a better team. That is how their fans should think. It is just a shame that their record this year against Houston was an abysmal 1-5. Had they turned that around (being the better team that they are) they would probably be leading the wild card race.

If Florida can't hit Redding and Fernandez, how will they fare against Ortiz or Wood or Maddux?

These two statements look moronic next to each other. How does two pitchers who give one team struggles make one entire team better than another?? Astros can't hit Pavano/Redmen = Marlins a better team is really messed up logic, and I haven't even seen whether or not, historically, the initial statement is true.

They haven't hit anyone in the last 13 games. They have scored 3 or less in each of those contests. They are simply in one of those team-wide slumps. There is no insult in not hitting Redman. His ERA was around 2.90 coming into the game. It also didn't help that their 2nd best hitter against lefthanders (Hidalgo) was out with an injury today.

Why can't the Marlins hit Redding or Fernandez? Why couldn't the D-backs hit Clement? Why couldn't the A's hit Pettite (his ERA is around the same as Pavano's)? Why couldn't the Angels hit a guy making his 2nd major league start? The list goes on and on.

The NL basically boils down to the fact that the Giants and Braves are on one level. Houston, Florida, Philadelphia, Chicago, St. Louis and Arizona are on another level and then comes every other team.

If the reality in your mind is that Florida is clearly better than Houston, then the Marlins need to prove it on the field.

your logic doesn't make any sense. florida won 1 game out of 6. is your brain skipping past that part. maybe the stros just have your number and both teams are actually equal, but there's no argument for the marlins having a better team.

i'm sorry but franchise clutch when you understand the game of baseball come back until then, don't waste your time, your comments were a joke.

i knew what we were dealing with when this guy said it would be good if the astros were able to only win 1 game.

How come you don't want to answer why the Marlins can't hit scrubs like Redding and Fernandez when they have so much "heart?"

I loved watching Fernandez pitch. It is hilarious to see people swing and miss at a 60 mph pitch.:p

All in all a good road trip.

I'm glad we pulled out 2 of 3, but with the Mets coming in, we just need to keep it up...

Reality is that the Astros have more experience and talent than florida. Florida is trying to deal with with being the hunted and in the national spotlight, something Houston has done for years. Also, young teams tend to be more emotional then veteran ones, but it doesn't mean they have more heart. If anything they way houston has perservered with all their injuries and underachievement shows A LOT OF HEART.

They are in first place despite getting very little of what they expected from roy oswalt and wade miller, bagwell slumped for all of may, hidalgo missed a month with an illness, kent got hurt for a month, the bottom 3 spots in the lineup are terrible, jimy refuses to play our new bright spot ensberg as much as he should, and lance has produced a good ops but hasn't really had a month up to his caliber of carrying a lineup.

All these injuries and slumps included we are in first place. That to me shows heart. You can say look at ensberg, hidalgo, and lidge-dotel-wagner, as surprises, but oswalt-miller struggling, along with the kent-hidalgo-oswalt injuries and early slumps of bagwell and berkman outweigh that by a lot if you ask me.

There is no way this team is in first place this year without a lot of heart.

Houston is in 1st by 2 games

Florida is in 3rd place, 13 games behind 1st place team..
