I guess it's a good thing Garner already lived in Houston.

Very interesting happenings. I'm surprised they didn't make it to the end of the season. What's the point of doing it now?

I, too, hope Cecil Cooper gets to take over...at least in the interim.

    Dear Jebus,

I don't ask for much from you (mostly because I'm jewish). I'm not sure if you're even there (mostly because I'm jewish). I just ask that Randy Smith is not hired as the GM. Please see to it that your minion, Drayton, sees the light and doesn't hire what be the only GM worse than Purpura.

    Thank you, Jebus.

    Thank You Drayton!

Just like when Mr. McNair admitted his mistake with David Carr you sir have given us some hope and made things better by cutting ties.

Please give Mr. Cooper his opportunity along with all the resources to get the job done.

Please don't hire Randy Smith, go find a top notch baseball man to take over and GIVE HIM 100 PERCENT CONTROL. My first call would be to Gerry it's what your fans deserve Uncle Drayton

this is how I feel and now we can enjoy watching Biggio this last month of his great career without all the question of who will be back next year

Okay, so I know that Randy is Tal's son, but what makes him so bad?

    I know nothing about him

What if Brad Ausmus retires and becomes the Astros manager?! That'd be the best.

NO STEVE PHILLIPS! There's a reason he hasn't gotten an offer since the Mets canned him.

    Bring Hunsicker back.

Randy is not a popular guy out here in San Diego where he was the Padres GM.

The classless booing of Purpura probably influenced Drayton's decision which makes it all the more clear that the owner is the real problem. As a rule of thumb, sports owners work best when they hire the best people and get out of the way. Drayton knows the bottom line and PR, but his baseball acumen is somewhere below competent. From what I've read in the past, Drayton handcuffs the organizational spending of his GMs and takes over negotiations for key free agents. This probably explains why the Astros have started resembling the Baltimore Orioles in recent years...splashy contracts and a depleted minor league system. Any GM candidates out there besides Randy Smith?

Under Drayton's watch, this franchise has moved forward light years.
