Yes... you can pinch-hit for anybody as many times as possible. There's always an inherent risk of pinch-hitting for your catcher, cause if your backup gets hurt, you're royally screwed... but then again, if you don't score runs, what are u saving him for... Its not an exact science... but to answer your question again, yes they could have (and probably should have) pinch-hit for him.
btw... I have NEVER seen Bagwell with this many mannerisms at the plate. (cursing close calls, and slamming his bat down every time he pops up) He is extremely frustrated, moreso than ever, and I fear that the pressure of being the Bagwell of old may be too much for him.
gAME OVER !!! ()*&^*(%^&@% #&@#%^#$%@#($(%^&*($^* ^$^$^%$^%$^* $^*$ tHIS WAS OUR CHANCE TO GAIN A GAME ON THE BIRDS. crap ola!
If it was meant to be they'd have gotten that big hit there. Of course I'm still gonna believe in this team... I was just stunned at how many improbable things have happened, compared to the memorable. Its quite a horror show when you compare our "big" losses with our "big" wins. The more "big" wins you have, the more it seems like its "meant to be." Of course, last year, they had several "big" wins (the comeback against Pittsburgh, the Kent walkoff, Oswalt's brilliance when he came off the DL, the sweep of STL... ) and that guaranteed nothing.
Too late to win the division, but we can win the wild card if: #1 - Fire Jimy #2 - Bench Bagwell for Mike Lamb #3 - Bench Biggio for Jason Lane #1 will happen before August, hopefully this week. #2 & #3 won't happen this year, so kiss the wild card good-bye too.
well they got the go ahead run at the plate and it was beltran, but just wasnt enough. besides that, i REALLY hate the cubs and their POS fans. astros need a HUGE overhaul; no way bagwell is on this team next year; and if it means getting rid of biggio to sign beltran, do it! one thing ill never understand is why ausmus ALWAYS bats in 9th inning situations???? he is NOT clutch and cant hit a fly. what is so hard about pinch hitting lamb/chavez for him??? why is this team choking???
His contract says different. You'd hope he'd have enough pride to eat it and retire, but not many pros do.
not much of a shocker but Peter Gammons said that the next 13 games are critical for the astros. If they faulter Jimy will be shown the door the day after the allstar game. To be honest i don't see how promoting a guy like Gene Lamont will raise Brad Ausmus's average or heal Bagwell's arthritic shoulder.
Gene Lamont? How about someone else. I don't mind firing Jimy though. I don't think the season is over either.
well this would be an in season replacement. Their options are limited and with the current staff he would be the obvious choice to take over. Then i'd be willing to bet they go after Don Baylor in the offseason. This is still premature though, we'll see where we are in a week
It's true that there's only so much a manager can do, but Jimy usually doesn't even do that right. Firing him isn't a cure-all, but it would be a step in the right direction. That being said, this was the first game in a long time where I couldn't find any fault with him - you can pin the loss on Bagwell and Biggio alone. The Astros probably won't reverse course until at least 2 of the 3 are gone.
