Yes he is... he scored our first run. And, given his age... he should play EVERY GAME FROM HERE ON OUT! I understand Jimy resting the aging veterans, because it does make a difference (according to them). Also, I understand resting Ensberg when you have a righty, because he's not driving the ball against them. But, you don't rest a superstar 27 year old who plays a position that basically nobody else on your team can play. ever. That said, he'll probably get a day off tommorow...
okay, I haven't see him bat yet. That and I missed the begining of the game. (I have been in and out of the room).
Never happen. Jimy will play Vizcaino there and call up Bruntlett for those days when Jimy (for no good reason) moves Viz to 3rd. Why do you want Burke up here anyway? I'm sure Jimy would @#%* him, just like Ensberg and Lane.
The Decision to call up certain players is not up to Jimy... its more up to Gerry. That being said, if Kent is out for more of an extended period of time, that MIGHT give Burke a shot to get called up. Bruntlett was getting time because he was a serviceable replacement at all the positions, and we were short-handed with Lamb missing games, Hidalgo getting traded, Everett's hammy, etc. Kent is a slugging guy, and we really can't afford to miss that type of slugging for too long. Burke could out-slug both Viz and Bruntlett with one-hand (judging by minor-league stats), but of course he could be very over-matched against major league pitching. Its a risk, but you never know how it might pan out. We'll have to find out about this kid sooner or later (and this potentially erases the adjustment period that Ensberg and Everett struggled at big-time in their first year in 2002).
I'm pleased with the way Pettite threw... basically made two bad pitches to the same batter, and paid for them both. Other then that, he needs to work on the rust with his sharp breaking stuff (and if he's not injured anymore, that will work itself out). Still, 7K's in 5 innings indicates good stuff.
You're kidding, right? Pettite was on a strict pitch count of 90-95 pitches, and he hit 90 pitches after the 5th inning. Criticize him for putting in Bullinger against the Cubs 4-5-6 hitters (Weathers would have been my choice, but they're basically the same type of pitcher... and Aramis did hit a tough pitch), but don't criticize him for yanking a guy we can't afford to have go on the DL again.
Geez luis!!! Can our field get any worse? A couple of bad fielding tries in a row. men on the corners. 1 out. Cubs trying to take the lead.
