Ausmus has been locked in to start the season. I say let a guy like that ride the hot streak. The way he is hitting right now, I'd say the odds that he would ground into a DP is about the same as putting down a poor bunt that doesn't advance the runners (like what happened).

I just don't like giving up free outs when you are mounting a comeback like that.

I must admit, I turned off the game in between watching my Rox suck and Kent striking out...

When I woke up this morning and turned on ESPNEWS...I was yelling and screaming...

Now that's what I'm talking about...Never giving up, unlike my Rox...

I'm glad Dalgy and Biggio came through because last season, we would have choked...This is the year...

No matter how you look at it though Basbeall Managers take stats into great consideration. In their minds if a guy hits into a lot of DP's then he has a good chance of hitting into one at any given time. But if he lays down a bunt a high percentage of the time it works out to yoru advantage. You always want to put the ball in play and make the other team work for the outs. In hindsight I don't even think Ausmus would have been at the plate if he had not been hot the last few games. Williams would have pinch hit for him because he did not want to risk the DP. But Ausmus is a decent bunter and Jimy probably felt comfortable with him being able to move the runners up. In a 9th inning where almost everything was going their way that one thing did not work out.
A lot of what they did (including holding up the 2nd run) is part of managers late inning logic. You never want to run yourself out of a big inning late in a game and you always want to move tying or winning runs into scoring position.
