The word ironic should be eliminated from the dictionary based on everyone that can't use it the right way, lol.
i'm fine with eliminating it from the dictionary "based on everyone that can't use it the right way". am also fine with putting a bullet through the skull of every jackass who incorrectly tries to correct other people's grammar and word usage.
they are making the same exact mistake on the day that the one narrowly avoided is standing right in front of them. irony.
This cardpire chap is a whiner whiner who only lives to complain. Good times, circa 2008. Read and laugh! http://bbs.clutchcity.net/showpost.php?p=3817009&postcount=57 But he is not alone. There's an epidemic of loudmouth know-nothings bashing every Astros move no matter what. When the Astros pulled that offer to Wolf, they b****ed about how it was yet another example of Drayton McLane's miserly ways. Now, when the Astros trade two franchise icons and effectively admit they're rebuilding--less than a month after signing a 16-yr-old to the largest draft bonus in franchise history--they b**** about the way they're going about the rebuilding process. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaa whaaaaaaaaa whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. b**** b**** b****, that's all you do.
http://bbs.clutchcity.net/showpost.php?p=3817427&postcount=75 Ed Wade's baseball knowledge is here. cardpire's here.
not sure what's funny about that post. seems spot on. may want to waste more time of your life and find a better example. and you seem to be just lumping everybody who says anything slightly negative together. i'm obviously thrilled that they are "rebuilding" (if that's the case). are they though? signing brett myers to 30mm over 3 years sure doesn't seem like rebuilding to me.
Although we have no idea what Wolf would have done had he signed the 3 year 28 million dollar contract with Houston, what we do know is the he was 6th in the NL last year in WHIP and had a 3.23 ERA. Those numbers were very good.
can't remember, how many postseason's did latroy hawkins pitch us into? the rebuilding should have begun then, like i said. i should hope ed wade's baseball knowledge is that much higher than mine. not exactly an insult.
like i said, i have no problem with the signing if it's complemented by solidifying the remaining 2 black holes in our rotation, and give us a realistic shot to make some noise of sorts next season. alone though, it makes little sense. you cut payroll and indicate that it's rebuilding time, then immediately hand out a $30mm contract to brett myers?
But it's an example of delaying the inevitable. These teams still would not be playoff teams, but they'd be just mediocre enough to convince the front office to keep trying to win now. They just needed to sever the whole idea of trying to be competitive in the short term and commit to rebuilding. They finally did that this trade deadline. If they had Wolf and were 50-57 this year, they might just do what they did in 2008 and just continue the downward spiral by chasing the miracle.
Yeah, except for the part about him being "garbage" who wouldn't be on the team in two months, your post was spot on. Or these brilliant words: "if the yankees don't want him, neither should you. especially if you are about to enter august, and they are in the pennant race, and you were out of it 2 months ago." Hmmm, I seem to remember the Astros being very much alive for the postseason in 2008. Randy Wolf and LaTroy Hawkins were significant contributors to that second half surge.
actually can't thank you enough for linking that. i'm even smarter than i thought i was. lol. you literally couldn't have found a worse example to try and make an example of me. every word in that post was right on the damn money. hawkins exceeded expectations, and, like i mentioned, it didn't matter for ****! you are the man!
This line of thinking is something I've never agreed with. Rebuilding doesn't mean you jettison everyone over a certain age or salary just so you can get younger. A team needs experienced players, leaders, and starters who can chew up innings. You don't have to have a 25-man roster made up entirely of 23 year old kids. See, for example, this year's San Diego Padres.
we understand that you agree with every single thing that the tall grocer does, buddy...no reason for you to post anymore. we know you agree with everything, and love bashing people who don't.
you are completely delusional. you were entirely wrong about his contributions as a player, but because the Astros didn't win the WS that year, there was no value whatsoever in his acquisition. Nothing could be further from the truth, or else Astrofever wouldn't have overtaken Houston in those weeks before Hurricane Ike.
