For the entirety of my 56 years following the Astros/Colt .45s, this may be the single most sad statement I have ever seen written.
LOL, mediocre by what standard. The 3rd best starters ERA in the AL, and that's with Fiers going full r****d and posting an ERA over 9 is his last 10 games.
It isn’t meant to be sad, or particularly unique to the Astros. My point being the game of baseball is very competitive. A poor inning or a single play can be the difference between winning the World Series and losing.
That also goes for our opponents getting slightly better or worse. As for that: Yankees - Slightly Better Dodgers - ??? ( I havent kept up with their off season moves) Red Sox - Even Indians - Slightly Worse
Angels, As, and Mariners will all probably be better than last season, but Houston should still easily win the division. Without a lot of luck the Rangers are in really bad shape. I love it.
I am not complaining about the Astros or winning the World Series. I have waited for decades. What I was getting at is that it is a very competitive sport. It isn’t like basketball where teams win multiple championships often. It is a fickle sport where a degree of luck or one play is the difference. The point being, if the Astros in 3-4 years only have 80% of the talent they have now, they may choose to go a different direction.
I was mostly talking about several years from now, but it could apply in 2018 as well as we don’t know what injuries or production issues may arise. Still, the Astros should next year be very very good. 2019? 2020? Less certainty.
One play? You mean like Devo hitting an umpire on a pickoff throw that saved 1-2 runs and probably a game in the WS? People dont realize how hard it is to win a WS. With that said I think the Stros are odds on favorites to win another title next year. They will need a little luck though. Injuries etc....
