In a way, I agree with DaDa. We had tons of opportunities to finish them off Saturday and we just didn't get it done. I kept thinking to myself that if the Cards pulled this out, then Sunday's game would be that much tougher to win because they would be coming off the high of Saturday's win. Big Mo is a b**** to overcome ya know.
It's one thing to miss opportunities to put away a team. But to say they were ready to roll over for them is ludicrous.
Instead of saying they were ready to roll over, I would have said that we had their heads under water and we let them come back up for air and keep fighting.
RM95, Didn't you read the comments from the Cardinal players about how they wanted Houston to win? That is a clear signal to me....but the Stros botch Saturday, and then they have the most overated 15 game winner in Franchise history on the mound giving up early leads like there is no tomorrow. Unless Oswalt or Miller is starting they seem to have about a 50-50 chance of winning, and less than that against winning teams. Man, I wish Carlos Hernandez was healthy.....and what the HELL is wrong with the teams hitting when Redding is pitching? Has Jobu snuck in and poisened the water? DD
Should have won 2 of 3...This just makes things intersting...We play the freakin' Giants, then the Brewers...No rest for the weary... Go Stros'...
Yeah the Cards were all lubed up and ready to take it. LaRussa didn't even put out his best players out there the whole series or have them play at their peak positions. I mean he left Pujols on first base when he was an outfielder, they had the Toguchi guy play over Edmonds, as well as adding in lesser position players.
Pujols is probably a better first baseman than he is an outfielder. When he first came up the Cards had a guy named Mark McGwire at first and the only reason he primarily plays left field now is because the Cards have Tino Martinez who can't play anywhere else. I believe Tino's contract is up at the end of the season and you may see Pujols at first full time next year.
