Dotel needs to stretch that arm, and find his true arm slot NOW... he can't afford to turn it on like he has the past two years around May. I thought Baggy visited him in the offseason so he'd get his s*** in gear... but I guess this beginning of the season slump is a Dotel trademark...
whew.. thank god for clutchfans.. My MLB gamecast stopped updating with Renteria batting, ESPN is still at the 8th inning, and Yahoo was at like the 6th. did Dotel finish it off?
cbs.sportline was working fine for me. I find its usually the most up to date if you are following the game on the web. Also nice win for you guys. Dotel may seem a little shaky but the rest of you pitching is pretty solid.
great pitching performance again by clemens.... not as great as his debut obviously, but a quality start nonetheless which is exactly what this staff needs to anchor it down. pitching duel for a while there with a few runs for us coming thanks to doggy and co. not sure what's going on with dotel and his velocity. he's 30 years old but that's a flimsy excuse considering 1 or 2 seasons ago he was throwing 95-98 mph with his fastball. Now combined with a little less control and a fair dropoff in velocity I think we're seeing the results of both of these combined. hope dotel will get it together for the long haul, either him or try lidge out at the closer spot.
Pretty much same ole' Suppan tonight, Kilgore... fastball was in the low-90's, decent slider and he was going to the curve for his 'out' pitch. he struck out 7 and benefitted from a pretty wide strike zone tonight.. he took advantage by doing a good job of staying on the corners and getting ahead early in the count. hey, he throws up a couple bombs, yet keeps you in it through 6 or 7.. typical suppan outing.
Dotel's loss of velocity has me thinking Elarton...hopefully it is just a slow start and he will come around. Our starting pitching is nails....... DD
He wasn't that great starting last year, and he was even WORSE startin 2002 (I distinctly remember a couple of blown saves in an early season Cardinals series... the cardinals announcers were proclaiming that he'd lost his fastball.) I'll give him the benefit of the doubt... especially since he's yet to come into a "traditional" save situation game... where he pitches the ninth inning only, in a close game.
Dude... he was being sarcastic. If you didn't know, Dotel apparently had a birth certificate saying he was a lot younger than he really was. After 9/11, and all the increased security and checking of records, it was found out that he was actually 2 years older.
] I might have to ask you the same think about Matty Mo. Heard his velocity can't get above 90 now (but he's still effective). Think the Cards will sign him at the end of the year?
In his first start he was throwing in the upper 80's. I didnt see his second outing but i read that he was hitting around 92-93 with his fastball. He can be effective at a lower velocity but he has to hit his spots perfectly which isnt nearly as effective as when he is throwing hard. As for resigning him, I really hope they can. They kind of blew a chance to resign him in spring training for a pretty decent price. Man i wish i could catch the game tommorow but i have class.
have class as well 'tis what sucks about noon games guess I'll catch the very tail end of the game at 3 or probably the box score by the time I get home. ahh well.... lol
The annoying thing is that i will be able to catch the 1st inning during my luch break then i have to go back to class till 3.
