Im usually not a skeptic, but even after going up 4-0, I figured Knucklehead was going to give up most of the lead eventually. I just didnt figure it would be all in the 1st inning.
Alright... the Jared Fernandez experiment is officially OVER. This guy had more chances than he ever deserved (based on ONE good game... against the Astros of all teams), and never capitlized on them. Good luck Jared... your kind is a dying breed...
looks like fernandez is showing why he was never a successful starter in ANY LEAGUE with ANY TEAM. here's to yanking him after 1 .
I feel bad for the guy(Fernandez) but that was truly awful(I feel like Simon from AI). Just bloody dreadful. He really has to show me something his next outing. I would say his job is on the line. New ballgame: 4 - 4 in the 2nd
ahh I see we already yanked fernandez 4 runs too late. hopefully duckworth can pitch a half decent ballgame until we can manufacture more runs... going to be a long effort for the pen tonight.
Nice job by Duckworth. If Backe has a decent outing or two, Fernandez will be taking a ticket back to AAA when Pettitte is off the DL.
Good luck seeing him in his next outing... because he won't be there. Granted, a start against a great St. Louis lineup isn't the nicest way to evaluate a pitcher, but Jared looked scared, unprepared mentally, and you can't have those characteristics if you're a knuckle-ball pitcher. IMO, this was the game for him... if he just simply battled, he might have gotten consideration for next time. But, he didn't even battle... he flat-out gave up... with a 4-run lead to boot. He's done.
Fernandez had what one decent start last year? How did he even make the team? Charlie Hough and Tim Wakefield are the only successful knucklers that I can think of... Ridiculous
