Haha I don’t recall Preston ever being a highly touted prospect. He was always “the other Tucker brother”. Astros have had pretty good track record with guys drafted high in first round.
I am really surprised they sent down Marisnick over Kemp or White. I love Jake, I’m bummed his value has dropped so far. With only 1 more year of control remaining he has almost zero trade value, although there are probably several teams that could use him (Cubs, Indians, Mariners, Giants).
In the postseason you uses less pitchers, so you likely have a roster spot for a 5th outfielder. A role he's pretty perfect for.
Defending World Series champs, best team in baseball once again... and I still get giddy as all hell when they decide to call up a top prospect
There was zero chance Kemp was getting sent down the way he's hitting, and we need an extra infielder with Correa on the DL.
Plus I think they want Jake on the postseason roster and he needs to get right. He isn't a good hitter and will never be, but letting him play everyday at AAA at least gives him a chance to get a little confidence
I was so excited that I omitted reading that Jake was sent down. Now I'm sad. Hope he can permanently fix his approach and swing and make an impact for some NL team.
A few people called the Luhnow Death Star banner yesterday. It’s just a wee bit of pressure when the GM is calling you Ted. I’m semi-surprised they didn’t keep him in the minors a couple more weeks, if only for the Futures Game opportunity. Let’s see what he can do...
the corpse of cameron maybin served the same purpose last year and a world series was won. jake is closer to a dime a dozen than his fans care to accept. keeping marisnick buried in the minors until the postseason would seem like an odd choice. what about next year? same drill? at some point you need to cut the cord.
and now I'm mentally preparing myself for the serious "send him down" posts We just need to remember that this is a 21-year-old kid who is joining a team that literally does not need him to play like their savior.
This offseason is a fine place to cut the cord, trade him and get whatever you can. He can still help us in 2018. Keeping him in the minors until September when rosters expand isn't some huge deal. And his glove is most certainly not a dime a dozen.
I, too, can't stand to see Jake batting as much as he has, but people are underestimating his value as defensive replacement and base runner. I am hoping that Tucker is still stroking big time, we bring up Jake for the post season defense, pinch running, and we stash Kemp as the Gonzalez utility replacement next year.
Paying him 3 million dollars or so for a possible few innings of defense isn't exactly money well spent. We signed him this season hoping his offense wouldn't be so terrible. This season's already 60% over, we can't get a refund on the million dollars or so we have already paid him. We will likely have a glove/runner 5th outfielder on the postseason roster, just like we had Maybin for last season. No better person than Marisnick to do that job. I personally would be okay letting Myles Straw fill that 5th OF role, but I'm fine with Marisnick also.
Freaking awesome! I wonder how they plan on playing him, though. I would hate to see Kemp's playing time get completely cut.
Yep. Remember how terrible Bergman’s start was? I’m fully expecting him to struggle this year...if he proves otherwise, all the better.
OF: Springer, Tucker, Reddick, Kemp IF: Altuve, Bregman, Correa, Gurriel, White OF & IF: Gonzalez Catcher: McCann, Stassi DH: Gattis That is pretty impressive!!
