and, of course, the BIGGEST reason of all: the team was highly competitive for the better part of a decade - and to maintain that competitiveness - to win *right now* - you're going to have to reallocate costs & priorities while sacrificing your future. unfortunately, at some point... well, you basically get the astros circa 2006 - an aging team past its prime with a depleted farm system. but i don't have any regrets about the bagwell/biggio era; i wouldn't change a thing. i haven't been thrilled with how they've gone about trying to bridge this gap.... but i've respected their efforts and the respect they've shown the fans. if i've said this once, i've said it 37 times: as long as they maintain their commitment to rebuilding their pipeline, i ultimately have no problem with how they manage the major league team. and like i said - i admire that their choice is to try and make it competitive. not my choice, mind you - but i admire it. these past 4 years have provided me a lot of fun. what's the downside? again, i continue to be amazed by how many people seem to actively NOT enjoy being a fan. it makes you wonder why they even bother.........
Kind of a meaningless stat if you consider that it's only the deadline and has nothing to do with players acquired before then.
Rolen just went to the Reds, I would have loved him here but it was a Pipedream I guess... SI_JonHeyman rolen has been traded to the reds. he just has to waive his no trade clause. indy boy cant turn down cincy, can he?
HALLADAY TO THE ANGELS??? lindacohn Halladay maybe to the Angels according to espn's Jason Stark for Joe Saunders and others. Nothing concrete yet.
I imagine they want a boost of energy and Rolen is from the midwest...I'd agree that it makes little to no sense but hey I guess they didn't like the progress Edwin Encarnacion was making so bye bye...
Rolen for EdEncacion...whatever. But if the rumors are true, why give up your best prospect for a 35+ yr old Rolen? to finish 12 games back instead of 15?
This is the deal I believe...No Alonso though mlbtraderumorsRT @matthewpouliot John Fay: The Reds are sending Edwin Encarnacion, Josh Roenicke and Zach Stewart to Toronto for Scott Rolen. Don't know the Reds system to well...what did they give up?
HOLY CRAP..Peavy may have been dealt to the White Sox again?!?!?! Didn't he void this deal out already? SI_JonHeymanthis is no joke. peavy goes to white sox again. #padres get minor leaguers.
Crossing my Fingers and Toes... brianmctaggart Oswalt plays catch for about 10 minutes in front of Cooper and trainers.
Peavy said yes so he goes to the White Sox... for Clayton Richard (LHP), Adam Russell (RHP), Aaron Poreda (LHP) and Dexter Carter (RHP). http://www.fannation.com/si_blogs/m...to-deal-peavy-to-white-sox?eref=si_topstories
