cleverly disguised trade to give Keuchel his well deserved spot in the rotation? they should have included Fernando's arm in that trade.
Luhnow got that for Happ, Carpenter, and Lyon? Seriously? I'll wait for tellitlikeitis' report, but that seems like a hell of a haul. Replenishes some of the holes in pitching depth, 2 of which are recent 1st round picks. Well done, Mr. Luhnow.
Nicely lets Keuchel join the rotation for good. Wished one of our position players were thrown in so one of the OKC guys could finally come up!
crazy. going to let tellitlikeitis do all the processing for me. has to just be a bunch of lower-level depth though, right? hopefully there's a diamond in the rough in there somewhere. good riddance, happ and lyon.
Predictions: Wojciechkowski to Corpus (might mean someone's going to the pen) Rollins (currently on DL) to Lexington Perez to Lexington Musgrove to Greeneville
http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/prospects/watch/y2012/ [rquoter]Perez(#8 @ MLB.com): J.P. Arencibia may get the attention in the big leagues, with Travis d’Arnaud nipping at his heels, but you don’t want to forget Perez, even if it takes him awhile to get there. Signed out of Venezuela, the young backstop has shown some ability with the bat, though he took a little bit of a step back numbers-wise during his full-season debut in 2011. He runs well for a catcher, and his athleticism, along with an arm that has thrown out 34 percent of would-be basestealers heading into the 2012 season, should allow him to develop into a solid defensive catcher when all is said and done. Woj(#10 @ MLB.com)(#10 @ BA.com coming into season): The 2010 sandwich pick had an up-and-down first full season, starting and ending well with a lot of not-so-good in between. The Citadel product still has the chance to be an impact starter with a three-pitch mix. His fastball has been plus in the past, though it was inconsistent in 2011, and his slider is above-average. He didn’t use his changeup in college, but he’s worked hard to catch it up to the others. If that continues and he can find consistency with the heater, he’ll be a workhorse starter. If not, he has the power arsenal to pitch in short relief. Musgrove(#11 @ MLB.com): One of many high-ceiling arms the Blue Jays drafted early in 2011, Musgrove is a mountain of a young man who profiles as a super-competitive Major League workhorse. The 6-foot-5 right-hander throws plenty hard with a lot of sink that should lead to a fair share of groundouts. He has a pretty good breaking ball to go with the fastball and has used a splitter as an offspeed pitch in the past. He threw strikes during his brief pro debut, and if that continues, he should start moving.[/rquoter]
Pedro Feliz appreciation thread? In one of Ed Wade's more under-the-radar moves, he flipped his horrible (just horrible) FA signing of Pedro Feliz for David Carpenter. Carpenter himself was dogst*t terrible in the majors but he was packaged and spun off for even younger, rawer, and higher upside prospects.
the fact that we were able to get anything of value out of this trade just blows my mind. not that there was much to be paid, but we must have picked up the tab on all outgoing salary. don't know how you do it, luhnow.
Joe Musgrove looks like a very good pickup and Luhnow is with PTBNL like Morey is with 2nd rd picks....money!!
Pretty good deal. If Cordero does well next season (if the Stros keep him),, you can potentially trade him as well at the deadline.
