a) the houston press story has already been proven false. b) I'm no fan of crane c) houston has even less tradition than the padres
How do the Padres have more tradition? They have been to the World Series one more time than the Astros and have lost both times. They have been around less years than the Astros. The Astros all time winning percentage is .491, the Padres is .463. The Astros have made the playoffs 9 times since 1969 (the year the Padres started), the Padres 5 times.
You are basing tradition on "probably they have had better players"? If they had better players, shouldn't they have had a winning percentage better than the Astros?
To clarify, it's $3.40 per month - or close to $40 / yr - that CSN is apparently asking based on that article.
I'm not up on the Padres all-time list. Outside of Kevin Brown, Tony Gwynn and the players they got from the Astros, I'm not sure who they have that compares. Here's my Astros best. Show me your Padres best that compares. 1B - Jeff Bagwell 2B- Craig Biggio or Joe Morgan SS - mostly mediocre. I'll go with Adam Everett because he was my favorite 3B- Caminiti or Doug Rader OF - Lance Berkman, Jimmy Wynn, Jose Cruz, Cesar Cedeno, Rusty Staub C - again, mostly mediocre. Alan Ashby is the one that made the all-time roster SP - Nolan Ryan SP - Mike Scott SP - Roy Oswalt SP - Larry Dierker SP - JR Richard SP - Joe Niekro SP - Don Wilson SP - Shane Reynolds SP - Mike Hampton Closer - Billy Wagner, Brad Lidge, Dave Smith
mvp caminiti i'd have to get back to you on this, to hard to evaluate with player tenure's and things like that, but i think this is an interesting argument. i think debates like this are best viewed, from a neutral party.
I'm assuming DirecTV or whoever might accept $3, and that is why I used .40 rather than $3.40. Of course that was just pulling a number out of the air.
They've had some other greats: Dave Winfield, Trevor Hoffman, Rollie Fingers, & Ozzie Smith. Still, there isn't anything special about San Diego.
Wow if this is true, **** the Astros. Seriously hope they never win ****. Hated baseball before, hate it more now.
Predictable response. "There was never an agreement" is easy to say when nothing was finalized. It doesn't mean that there wasn't a proposed, agreeable deal that was scuttled because of the Lastros' objection. They can deny anything and everything as long as pen was never put to paper. Nothing in what he says makes me think that the HP report was false.
It's not like this is a 20 page thread. Go back one page and see where the information was inaccurate. There never was a deal to reject.
Wait - the $3/month would be how much DirecTV has to pay CSN to carry the channel for each customer. So that amount, unless DirecTV eats it, is what would ultimately be passed to the consumer in the form of higher rates down the line.
