As of now the rotation is Roy, Woody, and Hirsh.

So yes, I'd be comfortable with Nieve and Sampson starting out in the rotation.

I'd much rather have Pettitte and Clemens back obviously.

I doubt Schmidt is signed though.

Whats the deal today with Andy and Roger? I suppose we will NOT offer arby to Roger and we WILL offer it to Andy...although he will probably decline it...as will Huff if we offer it to him?

Arby's is nasty. If you really want him to sign I would think Whataburger would be the better choice.

If he keeps pulling down these contracts, he may be in a position to make an offer for Arby's indeed. Does PepsiCo own Arby's or some other megagiant?

Racket's a DQ guy. Now, if Arby's introduces a beef-flavored Blizzard, watch out.

Doubt the offer arb to AP/Racket. I'd like to see 'em offer Huff if only to replace the draft pick lost when they signed Lee.

We lost draft picks when we signed Woody as well.

They don't have much to lose by offering arbitration to Pettite... but not much to gain either.

I know, both were Type A FAs. Lost 1st & 2nd round, iirc...if they offer Huff & he goes elsewhere, Stros get a 1st and an Arby's sandwich, or a sandwich pick.

Don't know if Springer is a Type B or not. I've pretty much forgotten if that even matters for 2nd round/sandwich pick compensation anymore.

Offering AP & Clemens runs the (probably slight) risk of actually *going* to arbitration, which would pretty much guarantee at least a 20% raise to their 17M & 22M salaries. I can understand why Stros would be hesitant to do that, especially if they think there's little chance that either pitches elsewhere.

One store. You know a guy like Roger is just itching to get behind the counter of a fast-food joint.

Roger is a yankee so he should eat Yankee food!

As a true Texan I am glad that he wants to be down here and embrace our culture and ways but I am also sick when people like Roger pose like they are Native Texans when infact he was born and raised in Ohio and did not come to Houston till age 14 (he might of just turned 15).

Any opinions on Vicente Padilla? He's a free agent, right? I wonder how much he would cost...

As a native Texan, I am not; and I think that's a little silly to be honest with you. What is a "true Texan" anyway? "True Texan" implies that there are "false Texans". Who is a "false Texan"? George H. W. Bush? Rocket? I think they represent us well; perhaps we can have a ceremony for them, have them take an oath, and call them "naturalized Texans".

IMO that's a pretty trivial thing to get worked up over.

I love the bumper sticker that says, "I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could!"

Woody was a type A free agent? Sheesh.

Anyhow, type A under the new CBA nets the team losing the player a 1st round pick and a compensation rd pick. Type B just nets a comp rd pick.

    So is Russ Springer.

Yeah, you're right. It was the Type C that they did away with. Type A costs you a 1st round pick, unless that pick is in the top 15. Thus, the cubbies give up their 2nd rounder for Soriano, while the Stros - who had the 17th pick - lose a 1st for Lee. Bummer.
