I swear, the only reason people complain about run support is because we had good pitching over the past few years. If our pitching sucked, NO ONE would care about run support.

pettitte has not been medicore. he had a horrible start last season but was huge down the stretch.

his career in houston has been good. 3.38 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 519.2 IP and he is 37 - 26 in 83 starts.

Send Taveras and Hirsch to Florida for Dontrelle. Problem solved. Makes too much sense. Boras is Taveras' agent. We don't want any part of that. Dontrelle is young and already proven. O and Dontrelle for the next 10 years to start the rotation. Then you can deal with Pettitte from more of a position of power. They want a ring at home, then sign reasonable contract. And go to war with Burke playing CF and 2nd base and look for a 4th outfielder. Give Pettitte $35 mil for 3 years. That puts us at about $95 million with Roy, Dontrelle, and AP anchoring the staff and a lineup of Biggio, Burke, Berkman, Lee, Ensberg, Scott,Ausmus, and Everett. You gotta spell somebody, you got Mike Lamb, Jason, and Hunter Pence. Then give Roger a few mill to come back at the end of July if he wants.

Really? The Astros need another starter? I seriously doubt this had occured to Purpura, somebody call him

Anyways, obviously, they want a decision from Andy and Roger, but in the meantime, most pitchers and teams aren't going to start serious negotations until Barry Zito signs and sets the market.

I doubt they make a push for Schmidt unless they decide enough is enough with Andy and Roger. They have been talking to Suppan's agent though.

Except for the fact that every single recent report out of South Florida states that Willis is not available this year.

On Taveras/Boras: Boras handles big-time FA negotiations in a vastly different manner than he handles arbitration hearings for young guys. Basically, he couldn't care less about his non-marquee clients. There's zero opportunity for him to use his bread-and-butter negotiating tactic: playing one team off of another (even imaginary) team to drive up the bidding. Taveras's agent is a non-issue for about 3 more years.

Of course we need another arm, but I'm not sure Andy and Roger are the answer as I'm not sure either will be back...Time for Plan F

Andy's coming back. I was just at his house about 2 weeks ago putting together a foosball table for his son's birthday and he has a gameroom completely painted and decorated with astros paraphernalia, just to keep from having to repaint that room, he will re-sign.

I'm starting to realize the Astros have got me in a weird psychosis. im suffering from the betran syndrome. Im afraid of waiting too long for pettite and clemens only to be left with nothing.
yeah we're gonna have to wait for the fa market to sort itself out before we get some answers from them. we have been spoiled with great starting pitching. just like we were with a bullpen for so long.

no way in hell you'd actually be comfortable with 3 or even 2 of those in our rotation.

Something tells me though that if he were to go back the yankees, he could pay a few people to change the room up.

I have a gut feeling that Andy and Roger will both be back for the stros this year.

Think about if Backe were healthy.

    First three months

    Roy O
    Andy
    Backe
    Williams
    Hirsh

    Then Clemens comes back.

As of today if Andy does come back

    Roy O
    Andy
    Woody
    Hirsh
Sampson/who ever else wants to step in
