In order to get compensation picks a player must be a type A or type B free agent. I believe this is based on their previous 3 years performance and neither Wolf nor Hawkins was a type B last year so more than likely neither will be a type B this year.

Perhaps this is a precursor to a Brocail trade.

Since it's been proved that Morey is God, why not just give the Astro GM job to him as well?

Are you serious? Texas Rangers wanna be? You mean having a top 3 farm system in MLB? Im sure you also mean having the best (cheapest $$$) offense in baseball by far? Or is it that the Rangers actually have an abundance of young MLB ready/ Minor league players. John Daniels has actually learned from his mistakes and has quietly become one of the best GM's in baseball. Just look at the results Texas is 4.5 back of the wild card. So I guess if thats what you "wanna be" then you guys are headed in the right direction. :D

What a counter move by the Astros to steal the Rockets' thunder!

Seriously, I don't get this trade. This season is OVER. Why give up a good prospect for nothing?

LaTroy Hawkins is Mr. Blown Save.
I wouldn't have traded a dozen baseballs for him.

Boy, do I miss Timmy. (not really)

I'm not trying to defend Ed Wade because he does have a history of bad moves. But I think these last two trades (wolf & hawkins) are all on Drayton.

WTF is going on here? This is some silly stuff. Cant wait for the season to end so I can give 100% of my focus and attention towards the Texans and Rockets. The Astros are just annoying me.

The season is finished, why in the hell is Ed Wade trying to bone our farm system even more than it already is?

I don't think we've really given up one good player combined in these last two trades. Minor-league roster filler, really. Not without value, but not worth getting concerned about unless the presence of Wolf or Hawkins dissuades the Astros from going after other, better players at their positions.

It's on the owner. He's more interested in selling tickets than winning Championships, and as long as fans keep supporting the status quo nothing will change. The only message that will get through is no longer going to games or buying merchandise.

He's trying to keep the mlb team competitive while rebuilding the farm...sounds like a decent plan to me.

Oh but I forgot...there's only one true way to a championship. FIRESALE!!

hmm, well, he isn't keeping the mlb team competitive, nor is he rebuilding the farm.

but i forgot...there's only one correct thing to do. BLINDLY SUPPORT EVERY MOVE THAT THE FRONT OFFICE MAKES!!

It depends on what you're view of competitive is...considering the rotation has been in shambles and has underperformed all year (and that's for an average to below average rotation coming out of spring training) I think they've done relatively ok. If they can manage to snag a decent free agent pitcher or two in the offseason (and Roy forgets this year ever happened) they could possibly contend for a playoff spot next year. And yet they won't be sacrificing the future as long as they keep signing their draft picks (they did do that this season, so they are in fact rebuilding the farm) and they don't sell off any major top tier prospects for a short term rental (which they haven't done, since the guys they gave up weren't of much value).

I really don't see the big deal in at least attempting to fill in that pitching staff in the offseason; you can't lure any top free agents (or Drayton is unwilling) and we're stuck with relatively the same team next season, then I'd be more accepting of a complete rebuilding process. Just don't think it's quite as dire as some people would like to think it is.

I just don't see the point of trading prospects of any caliber for pitchers who aren't going to help this year, aren't going to be here next year, and aren't going to net us any draft picks when they do leave.

uhh haven't you been reading your emails from astros.com lately?
Astros are going to win the division! now that they acquired monster pitchers such as Wolf and Hawkins.

Hmm. Wow! Maybe Ed has the Yankees job lined up after this season when Cashman gets canned and his job is to rape the Astros farm system for all its worth. For those keeping tabs...there's not much there to begin with. I really don't know what is going on. At this point I'd rather have Steve Kerr, Isiah Thomas, Charlie Casserly or Harry Frazee running my front office than Wade.

I blame this all on Drayton, the guy is a moron. We seriously have become the joke of the league in just about 2 years. I'm starting to wonder how did this team go to the World Series. Drayton hired these buffons in the first place, he takes all the blame in my book.
