I hope Kikuchi leads us to a World Series title. If the goal was to stabilize the rotation, then Dana Brown appears to have pulled off a grand heist. Crossing fingers.
For the 5th time: Scott had an Altuve error and a Crawford Box Special that wouldn't have been a HR in any other ballpark. What a terrible outing.
If he's in the playoff rotation, then the trade was well worth it. Hope we can keep him at a reasonable price.
Haven't seen every pitch of every start since he's been here, but I have been impressed by his mound presence. Just seems in-control.
You Say just got a 10 million dollar raise because of the trade here and we might be the one paying it. At least we got to demo the product first before committing.
I would still do the trade all over again, but Will Wagner has me turning my head. They dude knows how to get on base with the best of them.
He has a 4% walk rate and a .130 ISO. He’s had a very lucky 24 plate appearances and hasn’t shown anything to warrant changing the projection that he’s a lefthanded Dubon without the speed or defense.
His walk rate is so low because he appears to be hitting the 1st good pitch he sees. I like his aggressiveness. He's always had a plus hit tool.
Dubon also has a plus hit tool. It’s not all that valuable if you can’t hit the ball hard enough to consistently generate extra bases and if you’re not fast enough to run out a lot of infield hits. Im not saying Wagner is a bad player or doesn’t have any value. But the odds of him being a star are very very small.
Feel like we missed out on Wagner, but with how Blanco is faltering due to fatigue, it's great that the Astros have Kikuchi. He's going to be the #3 or #4 starter in the playoffs and you can't help but he grateful to have him.
Maybe that's partly true, but the lack of guys w/ plus stuff and no ( additional) injury risk also plays into it. It's a huge market for good starting pitchers right now which was gonna add 20% to whatever his offer is regardless IMO.
I never said he will be a star. Although I will bet he ends up having an above league avg bat and a better bat than Dubon. However his downside is he cant play the OF nearly as well as Dubon. I see Wagner as an avg to slightly above avg bat that's mainly based on his ability to hit.
And that is exactly the kind of player an organization is happy to use to get a player to help in a playoff run.
Except he would be doing that in AAA. In what world would Brown have added him to the 40 man roster, DFA'd another player to do it and brought him up over Dezenzo and Whitcomb? And in what world is an infielder a replacement for Cabbage?
