wow. exciting trade. But what about pitching? It's like the Astros are now the Texas Rangers of the south.

Great trade. Never been a big fan of either Albers or Patton. Just look at their minor league numbers. Their stuff is not that great and there are end of rotation types. Sarfate had one good month, Costanzois is a strikeout machine, and Luke had no role on this team.
Tim Purpura who? I got to give it to Ed Wade. At least he has the guts to make changes. With Biggio leaving it was time to change the face of the team. Don't know if you guys remember but Tejada won the home run derby the year the All-Star game was in Houston.
What a horrible trade for the Astros. Scott is so undervalued by this team it's ridiculous. Putting that aside though, the Astros have one of the worst farm systems in all of baseball. They also have a terrible rotation aside from Roy and a leaky bullpen. They just traded two guys who could probably win jobs in that rotation/bullpen next year along with a good hitter for Miguel Tejada, a former superstar plagued with steroid rumors and attitude problems to replace at least a competent hitter at 3rd. All this for a team that has no realistic shot to win a WS next year anyway. They are probably the WORST farm system in all of baseball now with this trade complete, but hey, at least Drayton gets to give his little "champion" speech at another press conference huh?
ugh tell me about it, this guy bats what .340 against us or something? someone needs to trade for Ortiz now!!
I'm on the fence, but leaning toward liking this trade, simply because I don't think we gave away anyone special. Don't forget that the Astros now will move Burke and either Everett or Wigginton, depending on where they decide to play Tejada.
Scott is the only MLB proven player we gave up. Orioles are gambling on players with potential: Patton and Costanza.
Roll your eyes all you want, but this is a trade that a contender, missing one bat makes. The 2005 Astros make this trade when they have a rotation built to win. The 2008 Astros are going to have terrible pitching.
and apparently the phillies were very eager to give up costanza in the lidge deal because he wasn't developing at all.
