I don't get the concern over losing Fisher. With Rasmus, Gomez, Springer, Marisnick, Tucker, Tucker, Cameron, and Kemp in the fold, it's not like to club doesn't have tons of options. You're only in trouble if you lose BOTH of Rasmus and Gomez next year, but Fisher wouldn't have helped that. IF that does happen (which I think is unlikely), then you're in good position from a salary perspective to sign a significant free agent next offseason. Bottom line: 1) didn't trade any high end prospects 2) turned a significant weakness into a big time strength 3) have 5 years of control 4) can spend free agent $$$ elsewhere This is a win no matter how you look at it.
Would make sense if the 4th prospect hasn't been leaked yet because he is left unprotected in tomorrow's Rule 5. So it is probably someone like Guduan or Holmes.
97-100mph heater...wow you just can't coach that either you have it in your arsenal or you don't. Big Thumbs up Astros!
I'll be honest, IDK who that is.

Source: Thomas Eshelman is 4th Astros player Phillies get for Ken Giles. Well teams can forget the idea of hanging around until the late innings to beat us this coming season. If we had this guy in the playoffs we beat the Royals
Still have Martes, Feliz, Appel, Musgrove, Paulino, Devenski, etc. down in the system. This is why you build SP depth.
Seems like alot and I'm not big on spending a ton of resources on a closer but if Giles can perform like he has so far for the next five years its worth it I guess.
Really love this trade. Velasquez has played his way through the farm and isn't probably ready to be even a #5 starter, but could on another team. Fisher might be a solid bat with speed or be a total bust who knows but I think he's probably the third or fourth best talent in the minors at this point. Fine with maximizing on that logjam right now. The 40 man roster is getting really really as deep. This is the kind of trade I think the Astros should continue to explore while keeping the core guys (Altuve, Correa, Springer, Keuchel, McHugh, Castro, McCullers, P Tucker, Giles, Gregerson, Neshek, Gomez&Rasmus (for this season) AND keeping the elite prospects (Reed or White who both could be ready for the majors next year, Appel who could still turn it around and Bregmann, Cameron, K Tucker, etc who don't have enough data to even know what they have yet and more importantly on adjustments they can make to improve) Fine with keeping Gattis, Singleton, Valbuena/Duffy/Moran/Davis logjam at 3B (this is probably Bregmann's spot in two years, Fiers/Feldman, etc open in trade discussions if they can get returns like this
Pretty decent price to pay for a major league closer, but I guess that's the price you pay when you're looking to win now. What an odd thing to say about the Astros.
Yeah, I'm kind of shocked by what we gave up. Didn't expect Eshelman. He could have added depth to our bullpen soon. Isn't that what we're after?
Yes!!! His addition will trickle down the entire bullpen. We have potential to be better every inning. Astros don't have to pay him for a while too
