He has the chance to be a long term Javier Vazquez type of pitcher for a long time. It makes sense for the Phillies. However he is injury prone like you said, he struggled with command last year and I noticed he struggled to put guys away at the big league level.
Excited to land Giles, would have been better if we didn't throw in Fisher. Hopefully he can become a dominant closer for the club.
Hard to disagree with this. Obviously his shorter track record is the only thing making that at all questionable. Also is somehow (possibly significantly) less than it would have taken to acquire either of those. The dumbest complaint that I keep reading is "why not keep Velasquez and give him a shot in the bullpen??". Uh, that makes sense.
Don't care about Oberholtzer, he was mostly terrible. Hesitant on VV and Fisher, but we will see. Hopefully Giles will be really good for a long time
Haha Berman needs to work on his knowledge of the Astros system. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Correction on the <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Astros?src=hash">#Astros</a> trade with Phillies for Ken Giles includes pitcher Derek Fisher from MLB sources.</p>— Mark Berman (@MarkBermanFox26) <a href="https://twitter.com/MarkBermanFox26/status/674765168472035328">December 10, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
So we have traded Domingo Santana, Brett Phillips, and now Derek Fisher. I guess we are all in on George Springer, and the 2 OF's we picked in last year's draft (Tucker and Cameron)
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">As of a minute ago, Vince Velasquez hasn't been informed about a trade to the Phillies as part of the Giles deal.</p>— Jose de Jesus Ortiz (@OrtizKicks) <a href="https://twitter.com/OrtizKicks/status/674767112393502720">December 10, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
He hasn't done anything special so far. Yes he is toolsy but he came out after college and should be further along IMO. The Phillips and Fisher trades didn't bother me.

jesus theres always some cry babys here. We get one of the best closers in the majors and people are complaining about giving up prospects. you get what you pay for! great fkin move!!
Good to have a closer. Steep price but necessary to compete. Closers cost a lot, and they make quite the difference. But Astros have horses to make a run for a title, they need to make moves like this. Though it could very well be we have given up major major upside in Three quality young players.
