Towles was never given a real chance. We will probably never know for sure whether he "had it" unless he gets an extended shot with another team.

What's with the Astros fascination with infielders who can't hit for average, can't hit for power, aren't great defenders, and paying them a lot more than the minimum?

I remember that people on this board keep saying how it's no big deal because we're talking short team deals. But how's that relevant when we do them year after year?

Barmes is a great defender at a premium defensive position, at least get your facts straight.

You really believe that a 32 yr old Barmes will be a great defender at the shortstop position next year? Really?

He was last year, don't see why one year will make that big a difference.

Everything else he said was correct so just one "fact" was off.

I like this trade. Even if it doesnt pan out and Barmes had a bad year.

Feliipe Paulino can do nothing but throw fastballs, has poor control and will never stay healthy. Plus, with the Astros looking for another starter he wouldnt even crack the rotation.

Here's to the 2009 version of Clint Barmes hitting 23 homeruns and driving in 60 or 70 or so.

Yes. He was a great defender last year.
