They'll still keep Marisnick around and play him against lefties (moving Gomez to RF).... and next year, Rasmus is gone so there will be a potential spot for him to "win". He's gotta hit better though.... all that pre-season talk about his + WAR in CF making up for his bat has indeed been mitigated by his bat.
Feel like the Stros gave up too much. Maybe I'm just not used to being a buyer at the deadline. It looks like they're going for it with the Correa-Springer-Altuve-Keuchel core, which is pretty exciting in its own right.
That's a pretty damn good core... with Appel presumably close and Bregman not too far behind. Additionally, Reed and Moran could break into the big league club next year. They paid the "going rate" for a 1+ year rental along with at least average MLB pitching.
That core has 3 of the top 25 players who are 25 and under in the majors. And the other only started the all star game. Good core! Lol
In theory I am ok with this trade . Given our depth I understand being willing to part with blue chips like Phillips . I am still high on Hader and like Santana more than most here . Houser is a nice piece too . Mostly I am concerned with the fact that Gomez seems to be having a down year . I'll have to look more into advanced stats but I don't believe he is automatically going to regress to his star form because of a change of scenery.
Would have liked Ross a lot, but if you look at the birds in the hand, we still have Appel and VV and both of them can be that good or better.
Disappointed we didn't get Lind in the deal and we give up our best hope to replace a Carlos Gomez. Our OF will be stacked once we get back Springer.
Good trade especially with Springer injured. Marisnick is not good enough offensively to play everyday especially with other poorer hitters in lineup. Like I said a while back, Marisnick is a 4th/platoon outfielder on most good teams.
