Jake Meyers optioned to AAA according to MiLB transactions page. Diaz back or calling up someone else?
His brother Ben Verlander was on 790 this afternoon and didn't seem too concerned. JV hadn't even had the MRI yet as of Ben being on the radio at 4pm so it wasn't even possible to have an update yet.
September 1 with roster expansion, the Astros can callup one pitcher and one position player without needing to send someone down. If the Astros want to back fill Myers with another CF, they could bring up Justin Dirden (CF/RF) now. September 1, they could bring up Hunter Brown and Yanier Diaz (C/1B).
He doesn't have to play for this to be impactful. This could allow Vazquez to DH sometimes when he's not catching.
Lets hope that Click grew some balls and is spending this evening having a come to Jesus meeting with Dusty.
There was an inkling of help on the Diaz call up. There is some word that upper management wants to shake the lineup up alittle. Vasquez will be catching more. Mancini will be in LF and 1B plus some DH. Diaz is the wild card in LF if he does really well. And Brown out of the BP maybe a start idk
It’s getting to the point where if Dusty won’t sit Yuli if that’s what management wants that they ought to DFA him. I know I know, clubhouse. But he just can’t have tools he will misuse in the playoffs. Smith for sure has to go.
Brown and Diaz are the September call ups, a 40 man move has to be made on both. My guess is Goodrum for Diaz and Will Smith for Brown. There is so little chance Smith is making the playoff roster it is pointless to keep him (and temp Dusty to use him). I think both Brown and Diaz will be eligible for the post season roster even though they will be September call ups because of Brantley and Castro (they will have both severed their 60 days by the playoffs). I thought they would activate Diaz for Myers but that looks like it is J.J. I think they call Dubin up for Smith, no 40 man move needed. I think JV is going on the 15 IL with a calf strain (really just a rest and chance to miss this road trip). Post dated to 8/29, return around 9/13. Paredes call up, no 40 move needed. I also think before 8/31 Alvarez is going on the 15 IL with his hand. More so for rest. Either Diaz will be activated or Jones/Lee/Myers called up. No 40 needed for any of them.
What are you talking about, Dusty has a hard on for Will Smith. He's been using him in high leverage situations since he was acquired.
