Breggy missing one day for paternity leave is so Breggy of him… “good job babe, have you seen my glove?”
Assuming full playoff health, and not taking into consideration matchups: 1-2B Altuve (R) 2-1B Yuli (R) 3-DH Alvarez (L) 4-3B Bregman (R) 5-CF Tucker (L) 6-RF Mancini (R) 7-LF Brantley (L) 8-SS Peña (R) 9-C Vasquez (R) I think it would be tough to not push Tucker to CF for the playoffs unless McCormick or someone else is on a tear.
It would be one thing to stretch Tucker in CF if Brantley and Mancini were plus defenders in the corners, but the opposite is true. That combined with the fact that McCormick is not a total zero offensively and it just doesn’t make sense to field a bad OF defense only to replace a .313 wOBA hitter with a .338 wOBA hitter. Of course if they are behind late in a playoff game they will probably make that move but that shouldn’t be the default lineup.
I remember CF wanting to trade Bregman for Sale…and Tucker was in more trade proposals I can remember…will be interesting to see how Brown develops…I think his inclusion was clearly the stopping point to a lot of trades. For Click’s sake (and ours) hopefully he pans out.
It just sucks that we are very likely going to have to roll into the playoffs with a bad situation in CF. Either a good defender with a terrible bat (Meyers), a decent defender who can only hit LHP (Chas) or a poor defender in Tucker People talk about our "window" being open for so many years and yada yada yada...we really have no idea how everything will play out long term We do know that right now, this year, we have one of the best teams in baseball. Sucks to be going into the stretch/playoffs with such a big hole
I know they would never do this to solve centerfield but here's what i would do given McCormick' splits... When a lefty is going: LF: Mancini CF: McCormick RF: Tucker When a righty is going: LF: Alvarez /Diaz CF: Tucker RF: Mancini DH: Diaz / Alvarez / Matijevic Hides McCormick against righties to maxamize his value. Then creates some rotation at the DH spot to get bench guys some reps. Curious to see what Matijevic could do with regular DH time...
Any update on Brantley? @Nook? As of last week he still hadn't swung a bat. How optimistic are they that he'll be back?
Brantley has been on the injured list since late June. He is still not swinging a bat. Click offered no more specifics Tuesday regarding a timetable for his return. Asked if Brantley will play again this season, Click replied “We remain optimistic and hopeful that Michael Brantley will play this season.”
There will not be an update on Brantley until we hear an update on Brantley that's not the same update on Brantley that we've been updated on for 2 months. They got Mancini as insurance for this, and I'm at the point to where having MB as a LHPH in the postseason will be a best-case-scenario.
Brantley will be somewhere between his usual self... and gimpy Jeff Bagwell who was our DH in the 2005 World Series...
A positive mention by the media in regards to the Astros. -------- The Astros are the unquestioned rulers of the AL West. The Mariners could have acquired Soto, Castillo, Montas, and the super-laser from the original Death Star, and I’d still project the Astros to win the division this year. ... The road to the AL West runs through Houston a little more today than it did yesterday. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/this-isnt-your-typical-deadline-winners-and-losers-post/
