I think it’s bc it’s a new pitch he’s incorporating and used nearly exclusively against lefties.

If I'm not mistaken you can have 13 pitchers on your playoff roster (unless they changed it this yr).

    1) JV
    2) Framber
    3) LMJ
    4) Javier
    5) Garcia
    6) Pressly
    7) Stanek
    8) Montero
    9) Nerris
    10) Maton
    11) Martinez
    12) Abreau
    13) Urquidy

He's used it nearly 20% of the time against RHB and it's performed well against RHB the times he's used it. He also can throw it in the zone as well as his other pitches so why not reduce his sinker usage to RHB which will always be hit fairly hard?

Question for my long time Astro Bro's in here. Some of us have been die hard since the beginning so its nice that we all get to enjoy this golden era that has little end in sight.

    Would you rather.

    1) Finish Second Seed in the AL and play the worst of the three division winners?

    2) Finish First Seed in the AL and get the Wild Card Winner?

    My answer:

    Bring on the Twins.

Not too worried about our team whether they are playing at home or away in the ALCS.

The 3rd division winner could lose to the 6th seed in the wild card round. MLB shouldn't worry about divisional foes meeting in the DS and just reseed after the wildcard round.

    Completely agree

Pena is simply not a #2 hitter.

    Here are 2 questions

    1) of the 9 Astros position players with the most PA who has the most Ks?

    answer : Jeremy Pena

    2) of the 9 Astros position players with the most PA who has the fewest walks?

    answer: Jeremy Pena.

I love Pena and what he is doing.
I plan on loving watching him play for years.
    He's not a #2 hitter.

Still missing a couple of mph. I hope that doesn't become a longer term concern for him.

I wonder if hes throwing with everything. He might be holding back a smidge at this point.

Career average is 94.8 in games so I think 92-93 is fine given it’s just a pen and he’s working his way back and very likely being cautious. He’ll be back at 93-94 by the time he does rehabs I bet. Main thing is if his curve comes all the way back.

I wouldn't put any stock in it.

First he has said ( as did Pressly I guess) that without the adrenaline of a real game his speed will be down a couple mph.

Second he isn't a fastball changeup pitcher so the difference in speeds isn't his biggest weapon. He needs to tunnel his fastball, slider, and curve. If he does that and his spin/break is similar to before all will be well at 93 mph or 96 mph.

So far, 43 PA small sample and all, he's a total monster in the 2-hole, ~Yordan Alvarez numbers.

I don't care. There's no one that scares me...and that goes for the current #1 seed and even if we don't eventually overtake them (they're due for a fall) as we own the Bronx.

I suspect the second place AL East team (or the Mariners) will be a tougher out than the Twins, and the Astros have no issues playing in Yankee stadium, so I’m perfectly content with the 2 seed.

Yes. Looking at all season numbers for a rookie can skew the point of view. They would be foolish to move him out of that hole until its proven he doesn’t belong. The other thing is to keep that protection. He will continue to see more balls over the plate with the best hitter in baseball hitting behind him. Of course, we are talking about Dusty here. Pena will be hitting 7th after Brantley comes back.

Pena is a #5 against lefties and a #8 against righties when Brantley returns.

That will change with more success though.
