Yeah. It's one of those counting chickens before they hatch kind of things.

But now I wonder how many people have ever been exposed to some of the old pearls of wisdom us old farts were blessed to have.

Basic management would indicate you would at least attempt to stagger future demands on your assets to keep you out of a bind.

But there are many who will not consider the possibility of anything other than a SHORT WINDOW. Trying to stagger these isn't working at the moment, but there is still time. But you don't exhaust your resources and slam the door to the possibility a longer window could work out.

Yes their stated goal starting with Luhow was to compete for decades not a few years and re-build. So far they have been masterful at growing their own and supplementing with rentals at the deadline. A lot will depend on their drafting and Leon and one of the other OF to work out. Of course, Bregman and Altuve will need to be replaced sooner or later. I don’t think we will ever see another complete blow-up tank again.

Rules have changed. The complete blow up is riskier. And the international market is different. Sometimes people forget there was more than just traditional drafting at work producing talent.

And then the big Trades for Verlander, Cole and Greinke on top of the developmental talent as well as revitalized pitching concepts and use of fielding metrics

As bad as our CF production feels, Siri and Chaz have actually combined for basically a league average OPS. Siri's glove has been well above average, so they've actually given us about 1.5 WAR.

I think WAR probably overstates how valuable they have been and would like more out of the position by years end. Nonetheless, that's rock solid contribution from a fringe prospect and scrap heap pickup last season. Little depth things like that fly under the radar when it comes to winning games over 162.

    A couple thoughts:
This shows Yuli is as much a problem as catcher. No excuse not to upgrade that at the deadline. Easier to do than catcher.
I’d love to see the 5 guys more valuable than Jose at 2B
That’s a huge number at DH. My goodness.

The 70 AB's at 2B that weren't Altuve have been absolute garbage, only .721 OPS overall from the position

Honestly, if we could get the normal production from Bregman and Yuli, we would be golden. Unfortunately, Bregman is in a 3 year slump and Yuli is old as dirt. I'm more optimistic about Yuli, since we seen him get crazy hot as recently as a few weeks ago. We just need him to get hot towards the end of the season.

But Yuli is historically a good hitter, so there is a better chance for a rebound. The same can't be said for our catchers.

He’s also 38. I love Yuli. I hope the upgrade comes from Yuli himself. And it might! Most people don’t get rich betting on 38 year olds to be dynamic offensively though, especially with a start to the year like this.

I think it's time to stop saying Bregman is in a slump.

2018-19 were great but an outlier.

Alex is what he is which is perfectly fine- 25% above average offensively hitter who walks as much as he strikes out and great defensively.

    He's not a 30+ HR, 100RBI slugger. He's a great #2 hitter.

I'm a little surprised the Astros don't have more WAR from CF. Siri just has been catching everything. Chas has dramatically cut the Ks while keeping the walks and power the same (really hard to do). He should be having a great season, but the baseball gods have decreed "No Singles for Chas!" this season.

Maybe. But I'm not sure that's true yet.

I was planning on taking the family and it’s kids run the bases. Wonder if they will still do that?

It’s a night game now isn’t it? I assume they don’t want kids running bases at 11:00 pm.

I had lunch reservations to take dad to lunch in downtown before we go to the game. Hopefully he's good eating at a senior citizens 4pm dinner time now.
