When you hire a GM you don't then hire everybody else. If you give him credit for Lunhow and that's only 1 of 2 people you have hired then that's a track record and when the 2nd hire has done more with less that also should be a success. In baseball, you don't just coast on another guy's success, everything that Lunhow did was ok'd by Crane, and we know that Crane is heavily involved in the decision-making, so you can't just try and act like he was just along for the ride. Yes any rational person would say that this team with the continued success they have had since Lunhow should say those were good choice's especially with everything this team has lost since Click and Dusty have been on board. We have lost CC, Cole and Springer since Click has come on board and yet here we are with one of the best records in Astros history so yeah they were good choices by anybodies rational metric.
So now that the season has been fully tabulated Verlander should win the Cy Young Yordan should win the SS for DH. Altuve should win the SS for 2B As for gold gloves we have 2 guys who statistically should be in the discussion Tucker should be in the discussion for RF, he played the most and led in defensive runs saved Pena should be in the discussion for SS, led all of baseball in defensive runs saved at SS. Always hard to predict how GG will play out, voters have been much more statistically inclined in recent seasons, so Jeter gold gloves probably aren't gonna happen much anymore. I think Tucker has a pretty good shot, but I doubt there will be enough voters willing to overlook Pena's Fld% to consider him. FWIW I don't think he should win it, but he's a lot closer than many here would think.
I wish I could say the same for you. I'm on to you. You are just as sad and have no life, like I have said with your other alts.
If he himself wants to get rid of Click after basically 2.5 seasons, it's extremely hard for me to agree that it can be considered a good hire. Crane himself would objectively be saying it was a bad hire, not me. 1 for 2 isn't a track record of any kind, good or bad.
So why are just ignoring all the success he has had by hiring Click if he does get rid of him that does not mean the hiring has not been successful? If Click had a bad track record, I'm sure you would count it against him.
Former Stros Straw or Siri should pick up the GG in CF. On Pena, I haven't paid attention to Mateo in Baltimore. From the stats, it looks like it is between those two. With Correa having a down defensive year, and Lopez playing 2B more, I would have thought Pena would win GG easy.
Do we know that’s what he wants or is not renewing his K some strategy meant to save Dusty from embarrassment at not having his K likewise renewed?
Siri may be the best OF in baseball, but can't imagine giving it to a guy that only played about half the season (I know he played 100+ games, but often game in a late game sub). Straw is a deserving candidate.
Yeah, Siri won't win due to playing time. He probably made about as many great plays as anyone in CF despite playing half the time. He made Chas look incompetent out there, and Chas isn't a bad defender.
Siri will win the GG just like Marisnick should have won the GG. But they don't award it to part time players, unfortunately.
Looking ahead while we’re in a dead period, this is the production Houston is losing after this season: Player PA fWAR Gurriel 584 -0.9 Diaz 327 0.6 Brantley 277 1.2 Mancini 186 -0.5 Siri 147 0.7 Vazquez 108 -0.1 Castro 88 -0.6 Goodrum 45 -0.3 Jones 1 0.0 Total 1468 0.1 Pitcher IP fWAR JV 175 6.1 Montero 68.1 1.5 Odo 60 1.2 Smith 22 0.3 Baez 2.1 0.0 Total 327.2 9.1 On the position player side, they lose 3 full time players’ worth of plate appearances but almost nothing in terms of production. They can project to improve simply by adding one solid bat to the lineup and deploying internal options (who project to be solidly above replacement level) to all the other openings. Bringing back Brantley while giving more time to Meyers, Hensley, Diaz, Lee, and Matijevic would be fine. On the pitching side, bringing back Verlander reduces the lost production to 152 ip and 3.0 fwar. Most (if not all) of that could be recouped by giving more innings to McCullers and Brown. Houston’s offseason shopping list may be shorter than we think.
I’m not buying any clickbait about the Astros. We just was a FRANCHISE BEST 106 games, I do not understand how there is any bickering. MLB playoffs unfortunately is nothing like NBA—where best team almost always wins. There is so much luck associated with October baseball, so let’s see where the ride takes us, but hats off to Crane, Click, and everyone in the organization to respond the way they have post scandal and post Covid. Just bravo. Literally the opposite of Houston sports typically. Hopefully they get a ring but we all know how whimsical October baseball is. The Rosenthal clickbait is comical. There may be some internal friction but literally every elite, top end organization has that. I highly doubt Click is going anywhere. Neither is JV, and we are set for a few more years to come a la Snakes post. Just bravo. LFG Stros. As a personal aside, the last 2 WSs were spent in the hospital for my family, so you quickly realize that none of this matters. But I obviously hope for the best and would love nothing more for Houston to bring home another ring (bring on the Dodgers), but I’ll be proud of Click and the Stros regardless what happens.
Perspective: The Red Sox have won 100+ games three times since 1901. The Stros have done it 4 out of the last 5.
04 was all luck Beltran and co would’ve swept em Sox did that with a bit of luck and consistently going to the playoffs, which the Stros thankfully have and forecast to do
Are there more 100 win seasons now than ever? Not to take anything away from what has been a clearly dominant era for the Astros, but it seems like Luhnow's successful tear down spurred other teams to accept terrible major league performances in the hope of future success. I haven't looked historically to see if the stats back it up.
Let look at If we sign back Montero, Vazquez and maybe Brantley Let's just say we sign Vazquez to a 4yr deal making ruffle 6m a year. Montero for 4 a year Brantley is all gonna depend on how low can we get the deal. We some how have some money left to either A. Resign Verlander to the deal he wants? Ugh Or B. Try and sign two players in FA and resign Tucker. Names of intreast in FA: A big time deal . Judge. Hear me out. We have the young SPs. We can easily trade 1 your choice on Luis Garcia or Jose Urquidy. To fill other needs. We have more up comming SPs aswell. If we are sticking with Meyers in CF or combining him with one of the said SP for Mullins or someone like that? Possibly. Who knows. But we can try and add that thunder bat next to Yordon and Tucker and Bregman and Altuve. This lineup would be dangerous. We can make it work salary wise. We can back load it where the first couple years done hurt as bad. But when other contracts come off the books like. Pressly Bregman and Altuve slide off the books it would be a decent rebound once our youngsters get to the majors. Food for thoight
