I think Dusty really doesn’t trust/like him. Click obviously likes Odo from his time in Tampa. Javier was just fine last year in his starting role and I thought fine in the bullpen. I guess maybe he doesn’t command the strike zone enough for them? I don’t know. His stuff is miles better than Odo and better imo than a couple other guys in the rotation too.

Last year I remember Javier starting off strong but losing his command and getting into trouble after 3 innings. So far we haven’t really seen him be successful going 5-6 innings though he’s been outstanding in his role. I think he’s earned the right to prove he can be a starter but it still needs to be seen. Odorrizi should be dfa’d or put on mop up duty.

I wonder if it’s just coincidence that Hunter Browns rotation turn matches Odorizzi’s. He’s thru 2 innings with another 4ks tonight, 0.84 era on the year.

I have to think it’s coincidence as I really don’t get the sense Odo’s leash is all that short.
I mean- I hated the signing from the word go but that was bc I thought he was a JAG, not bc I thought he was going to **** the bed. Still surprised if he doesn’t stabilize but I sort of think he’s got a roster spot until LMJ comes back or he stacks 2 bad months on top of each other.

Its been 30 years and more since I spent enough time in Seabrook to know, but back then that prick lived at the end of every street in town.

I would be surprised but wouldn’t complain if that were to happen.

The two major pitchers Click signed before last season have been horrible. Why can't he have a Charlie Morton type of signing.

I imagine the team is gonna go to a 6 man rotation for this upcoming stretch with one day off for a month. I would guess Blanco,Mushinski and Baez get sent off and Bielak gets called up. The way Javier is pitching I think he will take that 6th spot and Bielak will be the long man.

As for Odorizzi, unless he continues to absolutely bomb he will likely stay in the rotation for at least a few more starts. If he does continue to throw these non competitive games they might just give the spot to Bielak and see if he can fill the role of average starter to eat some innings. With so much of the season left to navigate I don't think they will go to Brown this early.

Odorizzi's stuff doesn't look any worse, his velocity is basically the same, and his BABIP is a stupidly high .444 so some bad luck is playing into it. However he hasn't been missing bats for whatever reason, that has to change.

    Astros’ Álvarez: The ultimate ‘fluffer’

The Dodgers traded Yordan Álvarez before he ever played a game in their system, sending him to the Astros for reliever Josh Fields on Aug. 1, 2016. Yet, as unusual as it was for a team to move a player just six weeks after signing him, the story of how the Dodgers discovered Álvarez might have been even more bizarre.

Marlins special assignment scout Bill Masse, then with the Mariners, was doing minor-league, spring-training coverage in Dunedin, Fla., when he went to see a Cuban amateur work out on a back field. As Masse recalls, only one other scout attended the workout — Vance Lovelace, then with the Dodgers.

The player Masse and Lovelace were supposed to see was short and muscular, and had something of an entourage. Another taller, leaner player walked in unannounced, carrying a backpack. The role of that player was to give the more well-known prospect breathers by alternating with him in batting practice.

That player turned out to be Álvarez.

“We call these guys ‘fluffers,’” Masse wrote in a text. “Well, I’m pretty sure the best ‘fluffer’ who has ever fluffed was Yordan Álvarez!

“He didn’t even run the 60 or take groundballs. He was hitting them over the light towers and me and Lovelace were looking at each other thinking, ‘Yeah, we are watching the wrong guy.’”

The Dodgers signed Álvarez for $2 million and paid an additional $2 million penalty for exceeding their international bonus pool. Fields, the reliever they acquired from the Astros, spent parts of three seasons with L.A., holding opponents to a .628 OPS in 117 1/3 innings and appearing in the 2016 and 2017 postseasons.

Masse does not even remember the name of the original player he and Lovelace were supposed to see. But he sure remembers the skinny Álvarez, who he estimates has gained 60 pounds since that day.

“There are a ton of stories like this. Baseball is full of them,” Masse said. “You could probably write an entire book on how some players were discovered.”

I’d much rather see Solomon than Bielak. Bielak is a AAAA guy imho while I think Solomon has legit MoR potential.

Crane needs to stop getting a free pass. He's lost the Reddick, Springer, Cole, Greinke, and Correa contracts and has replaced them with nobody. Yeah we can't be the Dodgers but we shouldn't strive to be Tampa either. We can't be Tampa anyways, our farm system is nowhere near as good.

    Wtf are you talking about.

Reddick was replaced by Tucker. Correa by Pena. Springer by Straw/Meyers/Siri. All the while Crane has funded a payroll in the top 5 in the league and the team has reached the World Series 3 times in 5 years.

We can't be the Rays because they trade guys like Correa and get prospects for them. We are stuck in the middle. Not able to sign them. Not able to trade them away for prospects.
