Hard to argue on the selections. More then a couple Astros were in 2nd. Hilarious that the Pirates got more then the Dodgers.
Correa is the only Stro that deserved to start. He'll be there with a few others, getting boo'd during the introductions.
Thus, the more interesting question. Clearly, Correa, Altuve, Brantley, Yuli and Pressley could make the team. How much booing does MLB want at the game?
The FO must know something about Martes that we don’t know. Must be pretty bad bc I agree it was objectively not a great move from an outsiders view.
Any Astro selected to be a reserve in the All Star game or other festivities should just decline and take the time off.
We should wait and see what happens with Martes over the next few days. It’s possible the Astros have a good trade worked out and will get a decent lotto prospect from a team that sees Martes as a change of scenery candidate. Or, Martes could clear waivers which shows no other teams think he is worth anything. Of course, worst case is a team claims him and we have to live in fear of him reaching his potential with his new team, and the Astros having gotten nothing for him.
I say skip it in solidarity. Fk the league and fk the outraged purist fan. Let them slither in their misery and deal with their newest cheating scandal while our boys go home and recharge. Can you imagine winning the series this year?? OMG. Biggest bird flicked in sports history!? Lets do that instead!
Would really suck if we lose him for nothing especially with him looking better in his recent appearance making his earlier struggles seem potentially the product of rust and not a degradation in stuff. Hopefully they have a trade for Bleier involving him already worked out. lol.
Nah they should play, if people want to be whiners and boo that’s their problem. The Astros who make the team deserve to be there. At this point the Astros skin is thick enough to handle the boos.
This. Also, I'm not sure what the problem with Hartman is. He's either valuable enough to be on the 40-man in which the move is acceptable or he's not and it is acceptable to cut him from the 40-man if needed. He's not going to get better in AAA. He would have looked at home in the Seattle Mariners rotation from a couple of years ago.
If the Astros didn't need 2 more 40 man spots in the very near future for Pruitt and James, and then another spot if Baez comes back I would agree with you. It would be nice if Click pulls off a trade or 2 and we aren't dumping a bunch of guys for nothing in return. It also sucks that we really have a 37 man roster because we are carrying Whitley, Solis, and Ivey who are all out until next year.
I get it. If it wasn't my team I wouldn't like the Astros either but by this time I'd be smart enough to know that it's obvious these guys are good and wouldn't feel the need to boo. However I also read the report, the average fan hasn't even done that much.
Is Jose Altuve our most confounding player? I was looking at team stats for the last 7 days. Here is Altuve. .190 BA 4 for his last 21 You might conclude that he is in a slump. At least not playing well, right? Not so fast. Over the last 7 days he also has: 9 BB, 3 SO .438 OBP A Grand Slam Hmmm, not such a bad week after all. Just random thoughts...
If a reliever gets DFA by the Astros, they probably are worth nothing. I have no issue cutting a player that is worth nothing. If the Astros feel a player is worth something, putting Ivey and/or Solis on 60-day IL isn't too big a deal for less than half a season of service time. Click is going to have to do something about guys without options coming back.
