I don't question the Wandy contract, and it's really not that bad. However, nobody thought extending Myers on his career year for that kind of money was a good idea.
Myers makes sense for the Cards... B_Walton On the Barmes rumor, love to see Barmes for Taylor Green. Green is a AAA 3B with serious pop but blocked by McGhee.
I wonder if the Cards have put feelers out, too. Theriot has been lousy. LaRussa probably figured his bat would make up for his poor defensive but that hasn't been the case. I saw Cards fans talking about Barmes with interest. Edit: just saw the prev. posts on the subject... I saw fans talking about it on SBNation today but didn't realize there was something behind it.
Pence better be gone. He's a definition of sell high. I hope it starts with dumping Tal Smith and Ed Wade. Only then will I start feeling we have turned around.
“@SI_JonHeyman: Word is, #astros dropping price on wandy/myers. Getting point that they have to eat $. #tradedeadline” Crane will not be pleased.
Eat that money! Eat that money! Eat that money! I'm kidding, don't eat that money. It may be stupid or crazy thinking but if you're going to pay a guy, pay him to pitch/play for YOUR team. So yes, I would keep Oswalt(last year), Wandy, Myers, whomever.
I read elsewhere this morning that the number of suitors for Wandy is increasing. Depending on how much money needs to be kicked in, and who we are getting back, it may be better to wait until the offseason. Players with contracts beyond the current year are usually traded then
I would pay on Wandy ONLY if we get decent prospects back including a 3B otherwise try again during the winter. On Myers, he is pitching well but I'd move him at all cost, including eating money...bad contract.
On Pence, Heyman says the Stros want a top pitching prospect and the Phillies trying to make it happen. Pence for Colvin or Biddle, Singleton and Julio Rodriguez would get it done for me. Those three instantly slot in the Stros top 10 prospect list.
Wandy has to get us back an A-level prospect, or a few B-level prospects if we are going to eat money. If someone isn't going to take the contract, or give us a good prospect in return for eating cash, than you don't move Myers either. Better off trying to see if he can rebuild some value.
Worley is Happ basically, everyone including the Phillies knows it. I would touch Worley in a Pence deal. Plus, I don't think they'd move him right now with Oswalt's uncertainty.
Agree on Wandy but the problem with Myers is that Crane wants the payroll down to 60 million, it has to be taken out of somewhere. Myers is what he is showing now, quality innings eater that won't get much better then this. If Crane doesn't mind waiting to see if his value goes up slightly then sure but from the looks of it, Myers is the odd man out.
right. i'm saying, i wouldn't take him as the centerpiece, but i'd take him as the 3rd player if we were getting 2 better ones as well. sounded like that could have been a possibility a week or 2 ago
