Curious to see if Josh Bell is still around at 69 if the Stros make the splash I had hoped for? They would essentially be acquiring the best two all-around bats in the draft and set up their outfield LONG term but pitching is a priority and his signing bonus will be HUGE.
Problem is, he's dead-set on Texas, and has adamantly urged teams to not even bother. He even wrote letters to teams seriously considering drafting him, and begged them to save their pick and use it on a signable prospect.
Yea, I've heard everything from he is strongly committed to UT to he wants to scare off teams that aren't willing to pay top dollar. Another guy that the Stros could make an impact with is Daniel Norris but that price tag is around 4 million. http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog...-bell-daniel-norris-tops-left-on-draft-board/
Closer to 2015 than 2013. On their current development pace, DDJ and Jio are not 2 years away. They're at Low-A. They'd have to make a giant leap in development to go up 4 levels in 2 years. Jio is ready for Lancaster but I still don't seem him making the show in 2 years. Springer himself is extremely raw for a college player and may take 3-4 years himself.
Seen both of them in college (Pence and Springer). Springer is a good fielder, possibly a gold glover in right field and adequate in center long term. He is actually a lot like Pence.. he is just more graceful than Hunter. I worry about whether Springer will ever make enough consistent contact to be a good MLB player. He swings and misses a whole lot. I read someone compared him to Mike Cameron, and that is a pretty good comparison as far as his approach to hitting goes.
I don't see that as an accurate comparison. I would take Springer over him as a hitter any day of the weak. Gose is faster and probably a better fielder, but I don't think Gose has near the potential bat.
If he can track a fly ball without running in circles, he's already 10 steps ahead of Hunter when it comes to fielding.
I don't think I will ever understand the logic of moving someone's fielding position based on their offensive prowess...
Would have been nice to have Matt Purke. Wonder if we would have taken him if he had fallen just two more spots.
Not finding much on any of these guys. Houser throws low to mid 90s. Armstrong is a big upside guy that will need a lot of time for a college pitcher. Chris Lee throws in the low 90's. I feel disappointed in day two of the draft so far, but of course these guys could be stars in future for all any of us know. Just as long as we sign these guys.

An amazing athlete, and great size. Guys that tall usually take longer to realize their potential, but when they do, it is usually with great results.
Physically he is not close to the same pitcher... you take him, and hope for the 5% chance he magically gets his stuff back.
