They have DeShields playing 2B, and I promise you they haven't given up on an 18 year old who has that raw ability half way through his first full season in the minors.

I noticed that too haha, but Springer sounds more like Carl Crawford to me..long term of course.

Good article. Wates and Kvasy really save the class.

Delino was brought in to play 2B. I'd expect Springer to be left in CF.

    11 George Springer OF UConn 6-3 205

A devotee of the "grip it and rip it" style of hitting, Springer slumped early in the season as he attempted to hit two home runs with each swing. He has since cut back on his wild hack and the results have been productive. Springer is a terrific athlete and an aggressive, energetic player who can run, field and throw with abandon. As he and his teammates were horsing around prior to a game in San Diego this March, Springer leapt up and touched his palm to the dugout roof -- a height of about 11 feet.

Springer can play all 3 positions, but I'd expect him to end up in RF in MMP. It really all depends on who else is here when the time comes.

Edit: If he plays LF at any point, that would have to be one awesome OF.

13 - Mets get Brandon Nimmo

14 - Marlins get Jose Hernandez

15- Brewers get Jed Bradley...Brew Crew reloading with good college arms.

Springer's potential is tantalizing but his swing problems will get exposed more and more at each level if not corrected.

If I were Ed Wade I'd tell "Springer, don't worry about rookie ball. go live with Jeff Bagwell until next spring".

Sounded like Ed Wade was not anticipating a quick signing of Springer

    Wates
    Martinez
    Springer

That is hopefully our OF of the future. Springer could rise fast, but if they completely try to redo his swing, it could be a while.

Just don't be Jason Lane 2.0

Through 63 games, Springer hitting .350-12-76, .628 slugging, 35 walks, 38 strikeouts, 31 for 38 SBs. He will stay in CF for now. #Astros

That is impressive, he understands the strikezone and knows how to steal a bag.

Probably not but will want to squeeze out every penny he can. No leverage, he'll sign.

CJ Cron to the Angels...good power hitter.

i like the pick. seems like the first player we've taken in awhile who you expect to be a good hitter, rather than hope.

don't remember if burke was a great hitter coming out of college, but if so, i guess he was the last one. if not, lance i guess.

    I think it'd be Telvin Nash-Austin Wates-Chris Springer (LF-C-RF)

Eh some leverage. He's a junior.

Astros felt Springer has best power/speed combo in entire draft, especially of college kids. All-around tremendous athlete w/great makeup.
