Personally, I'd rather see the trained chimps go up and try to stop it. :D

It would be cool if we could freeze it and then smash it into a zillion pieces. Would this be possible?

    No worries. There's only a one-in-a-million chance...

The chances of this thing hitting us are the same as my PC suddenly being struck by lightn

According to the NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, it's less than 1 in 200,000. How does that compare to lightning? They're still refining the numbers, so with any luck, it'll miss us. It will also make 3 more close passes in 2044, 2060, and 2078. Information courtesy of Kenneth Chang of the New York Times.

Hey, no one wants this to miss us more than I do. Hopefully, it will. I'll repeat myself again (sorry!), but we need to be able to find these things and have the ability to stop them. Write your representatives in D.C., or whatever country you live in, and tell them to support building this capability. Right now, we don't have it.

Ok. Everybody brainstorm. Think outside of the box. I'm trying to imagine what I'd do if someone threw a rock at me.

I'd take it in the rear.
I'd duck out of the way
    I'd try to catch it
    I'd try to block it.
I'd let it hit me and then call for mommy
I'd try to hit it with something

4 passes huh, Even Rick ankiel got one over every once in a while. We need to be prepared.

If a 'Stroid was coming at me me I'd-
Discover the secret of how to decompose it.
Fire a "Rocket" at it with a very tall Chinese man inside.
Buy a new pair of boots,
Create a bunker buster capable of penetrating to the center of the Asteroid with a very powerful Warhead.

I bet we HAVE the technology to destroy it but we just don't know how to use it.

If it does hit, then we don't have to worry about Iraq, the Middle East, or anything else for that matter. ;)

Problems solved. Think if we could say 100% it would hit. How well do you think the world would come together then? Do you think it would help resolve the ME conflict? At that point, it becomes Earth versus asteroid. It would be nice to go out with the world still heavily involved in conflict given that peoples will cease to exist when it hits .

Better get Morgan Freeman to start running the country and build those underground living accomodations. Better hurry. Of course, none of us will be pre-selected because we will all be too old by then.

I don't like where the world is headed if it doesn't hit anyway.
