I am starting to have some doubts. I remember having chills when during Ming's first year, he put on a clinic in a Mavs game. I thought, this guy is showing us the league's next great center. Three years later, I have seen Ming do his "Joe Barry Carroll" impression so many times that, well, I wonder if he really enjoys the game. I wonder if he really wants to play the game. Most nights he looks like he wants to go home. Frankly, I don't know what to expect from him. I know TMac is a great talent. I know Ming is "big," but after that I'm not sure what he is. He seems to have no fires burning inside, he looks like he is anxious for the games to be over. I am growing very disappointed. I haven't given up on him, but I am getting closer every game. My guess is that he will have his moments, but greatness will elude him, which is very sad. I hope I am wrong.
Bobblehead, a word of advice. It's much easier to read your thoughts if you break up your post into paragraphs. Everytime I see a big block of text, I almost never read it. It's just very unappealing to the eye. Cheers
I can't believe all the complaining about Yao. I think too many people are taking him for granted. Without Yao, the Rockets would not have the potential to win another Championship. He will play a major role in our success. His numbers may not satisfy a lot of people, but the fact is that he changes the way opposing teams play against us. It looks to me that he's made significant progress since last year (even without being 100% for a single game this season), and as long as he continues to improve, I won't complain. I can't believe some of y'all question if he wants to play when he's clearly shown his dedication to improve, working his ass off in the offseason while also having to play for the CNT. He's getting dunked on a lot by players who have beaten their initial defenders and catch him in a helping situation, but I don't believe anyone outside of Shaq can outplay Yao when matched up against him. Personally, I love watching Yao play. He's given me that spark of hope for the Rockets once again, and I know that we'll be back up there in the near future. I believe his biggest weakness at this point is his mental game. He lets refs dictate too much of his game, and needs to make those adjustments a little quicker. I don't blame him for getting frustated though because it seems the officiating each night is extremely inconsistant, but if he were able to make those adjustments without letting the calls frustate him he'll be that much better.
You've always been against Yao. You think you're bein objective but you just dont see him as a star on the Rockets huh? Just admit it
rofl this guy just completely turned **** around. How many times does yao have to cover for our power forwards now? Exactly stfu. dont quote him he's already on my ignore.
lol, well said. Believe it or not, I think Yao is still adjusting to the league, IMO. He just seems he is thinking WAY to much instead of just playing off his skills and instincts. These things really show up when he gets in early foul trouble. He gets so frustrated and worried about being called for fouls, that he almost plays mind games with himself while he is out there. He gets too worried about whatever he does being whistled for something. The same goes for when he has the ball in the post. IMO, he thinks WAY too much about what move he should do, what the defense is doing, should he pass it back out, etc. The times he has had it in his mind just to go to the basket and score, he has excelled this season because he's not thinking of everything else. I really believe that the ONLY problem with Yao's play is the expectations from alot of fans. Most want him to be a consistent 25/12 per game player, but he is not the type of guy who cares enough about stats to go out and do that, YET. All he cares about is to do whatever he can to HELP his teammates win the game. Fact of the matter is that, when he was drafted, we all knew that he was going to be a project. But, since he exceeded everything we thought he was going to be in his career so far, everyone's expectations leaped to unreachable levels. He has shown ALOT of improvement so far this season, though on an inconsistent basis, and he will continue to do so. Although it can be frustrating, we all need to be patient and bear our teeth through these subpar games for a little while longer because, once everything comes together (conditioning, thought process, assertiveness, etc) then we will all have the player we hoped for.
When yao was playing one to three,It was strange that there was not a PF beside him to help him carry the load.I think yaoming must be thinking of cato.
Sounds like You're a " YOF"?. Many are his fouls are Stupid AND Cheap fouls. Yao can @ Times have a mental breakdown WHERE HE COMMITS CHEAP FOULS. Also Until he climbs out of his Road slump, he wont be labeld a truly great player. he puts up 25 @ Home( Toyota Center) but 12 points on the Road. thats another Mental Barrier he has to Overcome. there is no point making exscuses, it's about time for yao to come good on the Road, and start getting Stronger mental aspects of the game.
The guard passed the ball to yaoming with hesitation,so there was enough time for the opponent to use two or three players to double team him. Too many inconsistent factors. In fact, rockets itself is not a consistent team now.
The problem is he takes far too long in establishing a Position Where the rox can give him the Rock. his not Willing to battle for a Position in the Low post. hence other players are forced to look for another shot. i see you're point, but it's not that Simple.
Why he can't establish a positon?Because rockets need yaoming to do other jobs, even some dirty work which once was done by Cato. I admit it isn't that simple.I have said "too many inconsisent factors" which are subjective and also objective.Inconsistent mental factors, physical factors, teammate factors, refreree factors, defence strategy factors and so on are all waiting for yaoming to overcome.
TMac is a proven Super Star. He has proven he can dominate the game. Yao has proven he folds under pressure. Yao has proven he wants the refs to bail him out everytime on defense and on offense. Yao has proven to be a major dissapointment. DAMN, Rudy should have drafted Amare instead. With Amare this team would have already been to the finals.
Yao is a different player. He will never have the determination of KG. What he will have, is the determination of Yao, and yao alone. Now, if he feels that by scoring 20, grab 10 boards, block 2 shots and pass a couple of assist, he is going to help his team, so be it. The rockets is TMAC's team right now, whether we like it or not. Yao is just too timid and unselfish to be that demonstrative "This is my team." concept. Sad, amare has now stepping up and he is not only making a statement of being an all star this early, but he is seriously challenging TD and KG as the top PF in the game. And before we know it, were going to eat the suns dust and Amare will beat the sorry ass of yao 24/7.
It is dispictable to come to a rockets site, and see bandwagon fans jumping off the ship on Yao everytime he has a poor game. Sure Amare's stats look better than KG, TD, and Shaq, but it is way out of line to say he is better than them. He doesn't have much offensive moves when he is denied from the rim. He doesn't make his teammates better. It is Nash who makes all the Suns look good this season. Yao lacks athletic ability of the smaller guys, but he has the plenty height/strength to compensate. Yao looks not aggressive near the basket, because everytime he tries to be a little aggressive, refs are prone to call ridiculous offensive foul on him. His rebounding/blocking techniques are horrid, but it has more to do with poor coaching than his ability. His is prone to defer to his teammates, but so did KG for seven years. I see this strech of poor performance as the dawn before Yao is waken up to be the monster he can be. With his height, strength, many offensive moves, good perimeter shooting, good FT shooting, vision, passing, he will be unstoppable. TMac is extremely gifted and is a better player than Yao. However it's much easier to find a SG than to find a dominant center. Rockets will go as far as Yao can take them. For those of you dream that TMac can lead rockets to a championship, better wake up now! This person is on your Ignore List. To view this post click [here] .
