I think Landry was a unique exception and was also older at 23 years old. I think Greene is very raw, and needs to play every day and learn how to play efficient basketball. Judging by his numbers alone .418 FG% in college he is nowhere near ready. My guess is that he is a 19 year old, and you should expect the same out of him that you got out of Boki his rookie year....or maybe a little less because Tmac and Battier are ahead of him, and if we sign Gerald Green, he will be too. DD
Wait... so this will prob be next year's roster at training camp unless some trades happen: Starting 5, Bjax, mutombo, brooks, SF3, head, hayes, landry, greene, novak, dorsey, oregon guy, harris, scrub that yao practices against, am i missing anyone? Thats like 18 players. Seems like novak, oregon guy, harris, and scrub that yao practices against are fighting for 2 spots unless Morey pulls a wonder trade. This is assuming we don't add GG to the mix.
We won't sign Maarty, he'll probably play somewhere in Europe. Loren Woods is most likely to be waived or traded as a small expiring (which the other team can waive immediately). Then I think Morey would pull something with Luther Head, Bobby Jackson, and maybe Chuck Hayes for a backup at the C. (Like a Bobby Jackson, Chuck Hayes for Etan Thomas and a future pick or something on the lines of that where the Rockets don't take on too much salary).
My favorite comparisons for our draftees are: Greene: JR Smith mixed with Marvin Williams in Rashard Lewis' body. I think he will stop making bad shooting decisions as he progresses on with his, hopefully, great NBA career. Dorsey: Of course Ben Wallace ala Pistons. Small for a center but extremely strong, athletic, rebounding machine, and can't knock down a free throw to save his life. Overall, I'm very happy with this year's selections.

As a UConn fan I loved seeing them against Syracuse this year because Donte Greene is just a chucker. He shot 16 3's in one game and only hit 4 of them in a string of 6-38 from 3 over the span of 4 games. With a guy with his athleticism and talent in college, this just tells me that he's a lazy player. Maybe he can change his ways, but he's a ways off from being productive. Dorsey can a Kendrick Perkins right off the bat - an enforcer who will make his fouls count and make an impact on the game without having it show up in the statsheet. He is a good value for where he was picked, but don't expect him to match Landry's offense. He has poor court awareness and can't hit a shot outside of 3 feet.
Dang look at Dorseys arms!!!! They make him look way bigger (taller) than he is. And he looks comfortable dribbling the ball. And has great control in the air. Trust Morey. He got us 3 kick ass rookies last year. Greene, well its time to start thinkig about the future.
I think Dorsey fit better than Hayes because not only he can defense and rebound like Chuck but NOW you have someone that can BLOCK and dunk and finish the hoop much MUCH better than Hayes. That many combination makes it much dangerous to double Yao or Tmac.
I'm convinced we got Dorsey just for Utah. He's rough, he's physical, he might even be a little dirty, and he doesn't ever take that angry-face mask off, even when he sleeps. And imagine that Utah crowd when they first catch sight of the latest weapon in our arsenal. You think his scowl wouldn't shake them up a little? Don't go to Utah, Utah sucks!
from the new documentary by Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys, featuring Donte Greene... http://www.gunninmovie.com/players/donte_greene.php
you definitely got a point there spacemoth. who here wants to see dorsey foul memo hard for flopping?
Assessments? I love the Greene pick up. It doesn't matter how raw or inexperienced he is, when you can shoot/score you can step in and immediately make an impact. The rest just comes with time. As for Dorsey, i'll be completely stunned if he makes the team. Even more stunned that he was even drafted in the 1st place. A 6'7" center with no offensive skills? He has no upside, plays like a poor man's Ben Wallace and is one of the WORST FT shooters i've ever seen. ....and to think, there are actually cracked out GM's out there that really believed he was the BPA over Mario Chalmers. If we could have turned the Dorsey "pick" into Chalmers this draft would be an A+ in my book.
morey is good at stock pilling young talent something we are not used to here in houston. he had all that talent that turned into ray allen and KG in boston.
i would rather see greene emulate his game after carmelo anthony (minus the sucker punch, dui, and personality), tmac takes too many outside jumpers to be effective.
also, Morey should have mentioned that Dorsey has the longest wingspan i;ve seen (for his size) in a while. I love long arms It's why Mobley had a good career in the nba. That , and the fact that he could shoot. But the arms helped. and his steals. long arms = steals
To me he looks like an upgraded version of Landry who will get paid much less. Scola isn't going anywhere. Bye bye Landry?
