Jeff hit the nail on the head. Even though all the members of Velvet Revolver and Audioslave are well known because of their previous bands, each bands really only has 2 superstars: the vocalists (Weiland and Chris Cornell)and the lead guitarists (Slash, Tom Morello). Neither of the rhythm sections of those bands play a dominant role in the sound. They're not bad - but they're not as up front and virtuosic as say John Entwistle and Keith Moon or Neil Peart and Geddy Lee

Jazz is a little different as the music requires technical prowess on every instrument (and often every instrument solos). For whatever reason, rock tends to have just one dominant instrumentalist in the band (with the vocalist usually providing the other dominant personality). As a result, rock bands with two or more dominant personalities usually break up (i.e. Cream, Blind Faith, etc.). Of course there are exceptions.

In any case, I can't imagine Eddie Van Halen ever getting along with another lead guitarist, and I know very few rock guitarists like to play with noodly bassists like Jack Bruce.

I hope I'm not being too much of a spoilsport.

Hmmm, what's today, Friday? OK, here we go.

    Current Rock Band:

Vocals: Sting (circa 1978, not the current adult contemporary version)
    Guitar: Vernon Reid, Living Colour
Bass: Robert Sledge, Ben Folds Five (gotta have the distorted bass)
    Piano: Ben Folds
Drums: Jimmy Chamberlain, Smashing Pumpkins (so heavy, yet so fluid. He has a new album out, you should check it)

    The Dead Guy Band:

    Vocals: George Harrison
    Guitar: Jimi
    Guitar: Randy
    Bass: Entwistle
Drums: Bonzo (duh) and Moon. Just can't decide.

Band That Should Go On A Reunion Tour ASAP Before One Of Them Dies Making It Impossible To Ever Tour With All Original Members Again:

    Vocals/Bass: Sting
    Guitar: Andy Summers
    Drums: Stewart Copeland

Come on, Sting. Quit being such a snob and DO IT!
