We are always having discussions about the best bands, best guitarists, the best individual part of any band, etc. So for fun, pretend you could put all those great parts into one super band, how would you assemble it? I'm going to avoid having more then 2 members of a band in my perfect band because that would totally defeat the purpose. I'm sure will see some of that, however.... Don't feel limited to keep it around the usual 4-5. Doesn't need to be totally serious either, there could be some good ideas where the constituent parts have nothing in common. One Awesome Band: Lead Vocal: Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) Backup Vocals: Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver) Lead Guitar: Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) Guitar: Slash (The Velvet Revolver version) Guitar: Nick Hexum & Tim Mahoney (both 311) Drums: Tre Cool (Green Day) Piano: Chris Martin (Coldplay) - Some great songs are made that much better by it Saxophonist: LeRoi Moore (Dave Matthews Band) - For the rare times a band will ever need one Rap Vocals: Ludacris - For the times the band decides to mix up the beat and collaborate with a rapper Fiddle: Jeff Cook (Alabama) - "If you're gonna play in Texas, you gotta have a fiddle in the band." Songwriter Collaborater: Paul McCartney (The Beatles) Stagehand: Fred Durst (Limp Bizkit) - Every band needs someone who's sole purpose is to be thrown into the crowd at a concert to be groped and dropped. The Essential Grunge Band: Lead Vocals: Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Audioslave) Backup Vocals: Layne Staley (Alice In Chains) Vocals: Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) - They're the best 'cause they got 3 vocalists Lead Guitar: Dan DeLeo (Stone Temple Pilots) Guitar: Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave) Guitar: Kim Thayil (Soundgarden) Guitar: Jerry Cantrell (Alice In Chains) Bass: Tim Commerford (Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave) Drums: Dave Grohl (Nirvana) Gosh, that took FOREVER!
Yes, you are a genius. That band definitely kicks the s*** out of the two above mentioned. I woulda put all 4 into the one above, but I tried to stick to my rule of no more then 2 members from the same band. Come on guys! Post some bands, this could get good.
Lead Vocals, Piano - Freddie Mercury Lead Guitar, Vocals - David Gilmour Rhythm Guitar, Vocals - John Lennon Bass Guitar - John Entwistle Keyboards, Piano, Synthesizers, etc. - Rick Wakeman Drums - John Bonham That is all I would need or want.
One Awesome Band: Lead Vocal: Paul McCartney Backup Vocals: Lenny Kravitz Lead Guitar: Jimmy Page Guitar: Santana Guitar: Eric Clapton Drums: Phil Collins Piano: Elton John Saxophonist: Whoever played the saxophone solos for "Don't Answer Me" by Alan Parsons Project or "Your Latest Trick" by Dire Straits Rap Vocals: LL Cool J or Warren G Songwriter Collaborater: Wyclef Jean Stagehand: Kylie Mingoue - Every band needs someone who's sole purpose is to be thrown into the crowd at a concert to be groped and dropped.
My band: Lead Vocals: Freddy Mercury (Queen) Backup Vocals: John Lennon (Beatles) or Mick Jagger (Rolling Stones) Lead Guitar: Eric Clapton (the Yardbirds, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith) Guitar: Eddie Van Halen (Van Halen) Guitar: Tom Morrello (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave) Drums: Carter Beauford (Dave Matthews Band) I think thats a good mix of old and new, would be interesting to see to say the least
Lead Singer: Jon Bon Jovi Guitars: Eddie Van Halen, Slash, and Brian May Bass: John Deacon Drums: Rick Allen Keyboards: Elton John Stagehand: David Lee Roth
Drums - Mark Brzezicki(drummer from Big Country and The Cult) One of the most innovative and underrated drummers in rock. I would stack him against the likes of Neal Pert. Some of his cymbal work is second to none.) Guitars - Stuart Adamson(Guitarist singer from Big Country) He isn't technically the greatest virtuoso on the guitar, but he holds his own, and his parts are melodic, and extremely creative. I look for a melodic lead rather than just fast fingers in my lead guitar. If the song 'In a Big Country' is all you know from that band, dig a little deeper on the early releases. Later releases(at least until the final album which had some ok tunes on it) sucked except for some quality lead guitar licks. Guitars - Johnny Marr(Resume includes The Smiths, Pretenders, Talking Heads, The The, and Electronic) Very innovative, and creative, as well as solid skills. Bass - Peter Hook(Joy Division, New Order) Took the bass to new places Keyboard - Jools Holland (Squeeze) A real talent on the piano. My band won't be too keyboard centered but Jools Holland can really hold his own. Vocals - Joe Strummer(The Clash,) I like a lot of vocalists but I think Strummer's passion, and the quality of voice would fit nicely with the rest of the band. I chose these guys because I think they might actually be a compatible and cohesive band, not just because they are all the best at their particular instruments.
Would y'all mind saying what bands they're from. There's a few I don't recognize....like everyone in your post. ha
Sorry I'll edit my post to include what band and why I chose them. In some of the cases I recognize there are better musicians. I was just going for a group that might be compatible.
Rhythm and Vocals - John Lennon Rhythm and Harmonica - Bob Dylan Lead - Jimmy Page Lead - Jimi Hendrix Bass and Vocals - Paul McCartney Bass - John Entwistle Piano and Vocals - Elton John Drums - Keith Moon Drums - John Bonham The songwriting would be anchored by Dylan, Lennon, McCartney, Page and Elton. I'd pay to see them.
Heavy Metal Band Lead Vox -- Geoff Tate(Queensryche) Backup Vox -- Rob Halford(Priest) and Bruce Dickinson(Maiden) Lead Guitars(must have 2) -- Randy Rhoads(Ozzy), Cris Oliva(Savatage) Rythym Guitars -- Tony Iommi (Sabbath), Dimebag (Pantera) Bassist -- like there was any doubt..... STEVE HARRIS (Maiden) Drummer -- John Bonham(Zep)
Just for fun, and including the dead... Lead guitar - Jimi Hendrix Rhythm guitar - Keith Richards Bass - Chris Squire Hammond organ - Steve Winwood Keyboards - Ian Underwood Sax - Bobby Keys Woodwinds - Chris Wood Electric violin - Jean Luc-Ponty Drums - John Bonham With some practice sessions (and the return of the departed), and some well written music (and there is plenty of talent here for that!, this would be a hell of a group.
Vocals: Corey Taylor (Slipknot, Stonesour) Lead guitar: Hendrix Other guitar: Tom Morello Bass: Les Claypool Drums: Bonham Get Pink Floyd as a group to produce it and you are set.
Instead of just picking the best from each category...I wanted to assemble a band that I would just love listening to. Git-tar 1, keyboards, doo-dads: Jon Greenwood Git-tar 2: Omar from At the Drive-In Vocals: Chino Moreno Songwriting: Thom Yorke and Morrissey Percussion: Phil Selway/Questlove Bass: Flea, of course Produced by the Neptunes, when they were at the top of the game. Yeah I know its just pretty much Radiohead with a bunch of other dudes. Of course egos would clash and the album would be a failure...but who knows.
Lead Vocals: Chris Robinson (Black Crowes) Vocals: Jeff Tweedy (Wilco) Lead Guitar & Backup Vocals: SRV Guitar & Backup Vocals: Kevin McKinney (Soulhat) Guitar: Tom Morello Steel Guitar & Vocals: Robert Randolph Bass: Bootsy Collins Bass: Flea Drums: Frosty (Soulhat) Sax: Karl Denson
My '80s/New Wave Band: Vocals, Rhythm Guitars, Keyboards - Robert Smith (The Cure) Lead Guitar - Johnny Marr (The Smiths) Bass Guitar - Peter Hook (Joy Division, New Order) Keyboards, Vocals - Howard Jones (solo) Drums - Clem Burke (Blondie)
Bob Dylan and The Band. There are plenty of more athletic bands, plenty of bands that are better on paper craftwise, but there's a lesson to be learned from the NBA all star game where both teams SUCK. Bob Dylan and The Band is the greatest supergroup of the century. But I don't know. Maybe I just think that cause I never heard Bob Dylan and Depeche Mode. Yeah, Dylan would probably be way better if he'd been backed by a bunch of soulless synthesizers.
bjork - voice fela kuti - voice and sax jimi hendrix - guitar kevin shields - guitar (my bloody valentine) miles davis - trumpet brian eno (roxy music-bowie-U2) - synth/textures/effects/treatments jah wobble - bass (world beat/dub guru - public image limited, bill laswell, countless collaborative projects) bonham - drums ginger baker (cream) - drums (2 bad ass drummers are better than one, plus baker has played with fela) bjork and fela sharing vocal duties would be a cool mix - call-and-response vocal trade offs. miles trumpet and hendrix guitar complement each other nicely. those two guys are the soloists - they have free reign. shields and eno provide the sonic explorations and ambient texturing. jah wobble is my favorite bassist - smooth, dubby grooves that provide a more spacey and worldly feel, which would be well complimented by the open heavy beats of bonham and the percussive activity of baker (i couldnt choose just one drummer).
