I think the point of the article is saying that he obviously doesn't. At least not much in terms of result. Shutdown corner may seem great in concept, but in practice never seemed to affect the entire defense the way some people exaggerate them to be. Don't get me wrong. I still would love McNair to throw the most money at him more than everyone else. I just agree with the article that paying him insane sum of money by itself isn't a magic elixer for our defense.
where can I chip in? Seriously. He might not be the savior but he's the closest we're gonna get to turning around our secondary, which, last year was one of the worst in the history of the NFL.
It's not just one half of the field. It's the other team's first pass option. The only counters are a solid running game or more receiving threats, but it's like losing Andre Johnson. Imagine game planning next year without having to worry about Roddy White, Anquan Boldin, Mike Wallace, Brandon Lloyd, Reggie Wayne, etc. If only this team wasn't so damn bad about letting the scrubs score on them.
Please email the Texans and make your voice heard!!! fanfeedback@houstontexans.com Here was my message and response: Subject: Make Nnamdi Asomugha a Texan, whatever it takes Dear whoever reads this, As a lifelong Texan fan I implore the front office to make this signing their #1 priority. I am sure it is blatantly obvious after last season how bad the secondary is and this one signing would make a huge impact as well as reenergize the fanbase. Please acknowledge the pleas of your diehard fans! Thank you, Response: Thank you for your email. We appreciate your feedback regarding Nnamdi Asomugha. Thanks again and have a great day! Go Texans!
nice!! wow surprised you got a response. i would ask the responder who they are and to really pass it on to the coaches and so on.
It was some intern and they say the same thing every time. "Thank you for your feedback regarding ______. Thanks again and have a great day!" I sent an email asking about Bob McNair's mental health and they responded exactly the same way. Do they monitor the emails for trends? Maybe. Do they forward ideas/comments to decision makers? Absolutely not.
Like nearly all positions in football (save QB, NT, and maybe LT), no one guy can save an entire side of the ball. So yes, spending 1/6th of your cap on a single guy and surrounding him with trash won't work out (as opposed to the NBA star system). But surround him with guys that can hold their own? You are going somewhere. And one reason why I'm so infavor of spending big on the secondary is that Wade Phillips' system is predicated on sending 5 guys nearly every down, exposing the secondary. It is critical that we have players that can lock down in coverage - 8 yard cushions and the disaster we saw last year can't happen. As far as the Raiders, they did see results. #11 in yards allowed #2 in Passing yards allowed #6 in INT No one would claim that Asomugha made it all happen - but he was a key piece in that defense being so tough this year. Teams couldn't utilize their #1 WR, and that instantly hampers game plans. I'd rather have a sure thing that take a flier on a B-grade FA hoping that he works out well enough. We can't replace all 4 DBs in an offseason with upgrades, so let's be sure we don't make lateral moves in the 1 or 2 replacements we do bring in. All that said, I have zero faith in this happening. Retread Recycling program will be in effect.
LOL. That email does not get to anybody on the football side of the team, believe me. It goes to the business/marketing side and is in place more than anything to keep up with what is working and what needs to be fixed as far as gameday entertainment around the stadium (besides the team).
I wrote a letter too. Response: Thank you for your email. We appreciate your feedback regarding kicking Bob McNair in his wrinkled old ball bag. Thanks again and have a great day! Go Texans!
Would I have any luck emailing that address WRT my one-man crusade to get the cheerleaders to show more cleavage?
At the very least, you probably gave some mindless intern drone the lulz. Well, as long as they don't use word recognition software and just issue computer-generated responses.
To be fair, it looks like the rest of the league is falling in line with #1: Minnesota and Dallas, especially, promoted interim coaches; Cincinnati, Tennessee and Miami are all bringing back three coaches that went a combined 17-31 lasts year; Carolina, Denver and Oakland are all rumored to likely be going the cheaper route of hiring an unproven coordinator, Oakland likely from within … Meanwhile, it’s looking more and more like all the big-name free agent coaches – Cowher, Gruden, et al – are going to spend 2011 on the sidelines and I’m guessing the lockout is a BIG reason why.
