wishful thinking but it would be pretty awesome to have him on one side of the field and champ at safety.
Why I'm pessimistic: 9 offseasons and still waiting on the first big FA signing. Heck, the courtships could be counted on one hand missing fingers from a tractor incident. McNair already talking about Phillips working with players on hand to fix the defense. The lockout - I suspect that we'll see "free" agency limited on the other side of the CBA. Hopefully, his being on the market will help us out from a supply/demand standpoint in bringing in a solid (if not star) CB.
I REFUSE to get my hopes up again with this organization until they give me real reason to. I literally have no faith in the decision makers whatsoever.
MadMax, our shared teachings are to believe in the positives, in the goodness of what our fellow man is capable of. As a Christian, don't ever give up, that is what separates the good from the bad...The bad says why believe?...why think we can achieve a certain status if we are certain to fail...why even try? We know better though, we will try even in in the certain face of failing. . . We can do this MadMax, and I'll stand beside you.
It wasn't on the website, unfortunately. It was on the front page of the sports section a few days ago. One of the rare times that I actually read a hard copy of the paper. It has a diagram of the 3-4 and the players that would play each (front 7) position. Next to each player, it had another player who played that position under Wade in years past. Ware was next to Barwin. Bruce Smith was next to Mario. Karl Mecklenburg was next to Ryans, etc. The Chronicle has been working overtime lately trying to convince us that hiring Wade is going to make all our defensive problems disappear. Gotta love that tough Houston media...
I'm not trying to make excuses for them, but some of you have your hopes up WAY too high by calling for Bob/Rick's head if they can't sign Nnamdi. The guy is unrestricted, 30 years old, and used to losing. I don't think the Houston Texans are going to be the first team that pops in his head when deciding where he wants to go. I think it's going to take a minor miracle to get him here. Now, if he goes and signs with a team like the Bengals for no apparent reason other than money, then we may have a right to be pissed. What this does is floods the market a little more, so that hopefully we'll have a better chance at one of the nice CB's available (unlike last year where freakin Leigh Bodden was the cream of the crop).
Thanks ima, I feel better knowing that Wade will turn our league worst defense into something populated by future Hall of Famers and perennial Pro Bowlers with his mere presence alone. Thank you Houston Chronicle for restoring my faith in this organization, to think I doubted that the addition of another facepalming sideline standing good ole boy was all we needed, I am so dumb. Kudos to you Mr. Mcnair, now we can all sit back and laugh while some other team foolishly snaps up possibly the best corner in the game and every other big time defensive free agent; for we know the true secret to success in this league is the mighty facepalm.... on the right track!
Another excuse given to the Texans that seems to never be in play for other teams. "Can't change coaches with a lockout!" "Can't switch to a 3-4 it takes years to change!" "Changing a head coach sets you back 5 years!" "Can't sign elite free agents they only go to winners!" The rest of the league manages to get around those roadblocks and improve while the Texans keep treading water. The Saints signed Drew Brees despite being a franchise in the pits. The Redskins sign whoever they want whenever they want. Heck, the LIONS have signed free agents. The Chiefs signed free agents! The Bucs have signed free agents! These excuses that fans and media in this town give this team are pathetic. I struggle to grasp why the Houston Texans are in such a unique situation that they have rules that assist their mediocrity that the rest of the league doesn't abide by.
I don't think Bob will even really try to sign him. Going after a premier free agent goes against his ultra conservative nature.
He and Gary have both said before that they don't believe in building a team through free agency, only adding supplementary players. This team thinks trade and free agency are only to find the spare parts you need to round out your roster, not to find great players. That would be ok I guess if they had any clue how to draft players. Maybe our new linebacker/defensive backs coaches will be better at personnel decisions since our last ones weren't so hot and our GM has no control over personnel!
I find myself trying to detach myself emotionally with the Texans and Rockets. I know I can't but I would like to care less. I doubt they will go after any big names, were discussing a team that got excited about signing Dan Orlovsky. There has never been a big name free agent and why would that change now, but I'll hope...
This whole situation will play out similar to the Orlando Pace situation a few years ago. An elite player at a position the Texans desperately need. There will be some effort to sign the player, but in the end either the Texans won't be entirely serious or the player was never really interested in anything other than increasing his offer from other teams. We as fans will never get enough information to decide which it is, really, and we'll spend months on end arguing about it with each other over the internet. Optimists will insist the player was never serious about leaving his team (or already had another offer he wanted) and pessimists will cry that McNair didn't allow a serious offer and just wanted to be able to claim that they made a real attempt. All the while the Texans will find some retread out there for "cheap" (read: not as much as Namdi but CERTAINLY more than he is worth) and will continue racking up mediocre seasons. God I'm depressed.
Ooops. Sarcasm meter broke a long time ago. This one is on me, meh. I gotta go back and look at your post.
So, I'm new to this thread. Did McNair deliver Asomugha a blank check yesterday? If not, he still doesn't care about this team winning...
It wont even get to that point, he probably wont even come to visit us. He will be the premier FA and could use the Jets to leverage GB or vice versa. Unless he just wants to be refereed to as a "kid" at every press conference, and not be held accountable for bad play, he won't come hear. He's not a TE either so LOL at you guys getting your hopes up. The Texans only battlefight for mediocrity not for winning.
You know whats truly sad. Bob is going to offer the guy a boat load of money and he will end yp at the Patriots or Eagles for less.
